i listen to kerrang! radio.... they have a few real punk bands... but mostly pop punk rock bands >.<
anyway i doubt they are "punk" but i really love the rasmus and my chemical romance <333

My Chemical Romance, well I consider them punk rock and just normal rock. I love them. And I love The Rasmus, half because they're good and half because I love Finland XD

MCR is hardcore, from what I've heard. Otherwise, I don't think they're punk.

Oh there have been many misconceptions alright. The ones that get me really pissed are people who think that Nirvana is punk or emo... oh those make my blood boil...

Alot of people have a very odd idea of what "real" punk music is, but now im past caring, I know myself what it is and if all these who think that Green Day, Blink 182, Linkin Park are punk then whoopty to them.
Some of my favourite punk bands are The Decendents, The Mad Caddies, Mixwitch, Rancid, Black Flag, Shellac, Therapy?, Whitmore, AR*****, The Casualties, Strife, Bad brains...*mutters on for about an hour*

Love, not hate. I highly disagree with that. I highly doubt you can compare Dookie to Blink 182's Enema of State. It's like comparing a lemon to a lime (Kind of sort of not really come from the same roots, but you still can't exactly compare them- Okay that was a bad comparison...whatever XD)Pincushion said:Mmm, those 3 are all just as bad as eachother.
But yeah...I might as well post what I think is real Punk Rock- Of course this means nothing:
Against Me!- Not really a local band, pretty good and I saw them live at a Green Day concert.
Alkaline Trio- Chances are you know this band. They're kind of dark lyrical wise, but I still consider them Punk Rock.
Anti-Flag- GO LISTEN TO THEM, FOOL! They're the best political band out there.
The Ataris- Mmm, 'dunno if you know these guys. Pretty good.
Dropkick Murphies- I just wanted to note these guys, because I think they're from Boston. I could be wrong.
Green Day- Go ahead, flame me and see if I could care any less. These guys have been punk since 1986. If you want to start an argument, don't get this thread locked- Message me or something.
Jimmy Eat World-*gets stared at* Okay, okay, they're more what idiots would call "Emo" but I wanted to mention them ;-;
Kisschasy- <3! Australian band, and they're amazing.
Man Alive- Amazing band, not enough credit. They sell their new CD at best buy, go look for it. It's called Open Surgery. They're Israeli, by the way.
No Use For a Name- Yeah, you probably don't know these guys. Been on tour with a few of my favorite Israeli bands...
Operation Ivy- For some reason, these guys are compared with Rancid wherever I go. No clue why xD They're also called Ska sometimes, but I wanted to bring 'em up.
Rancid-Pwnage band, go listen.
The Unseen- Probably 2nd best political band next to Anti-Flag. They're from Boston, and they're amazing.
Useless I.D.- Israeli band, which WILL make it to the top one day because they have so much freaking potential.
And finally, we musn't forget the start of it all: The Clash, the Sex Pistols, etc. etc. ^_^

I generally divide Punk into two seperate categories now, XD
There's 'Original Punk', stuff like The Ramones. Stuff that basically defines the genre.
Then there is 'Modern Punk', which is stuff like Blink 182 and Green Day. They can be classified as punk, as they share more qualities with punk then any other genre, but don't stay true to all of the qualities that 'Original Punk' had.
I'm a Ramones and Clash fan myself.
