Was curious if anyone here owned stocks/bonds in a portfolio they managed themselves. One of my major interests is business and economic studies so starting in the summer of 2013 I started to create a portfolio of stocks that I purchased with my own money. I readjusted things a lot since I was trying to figure out how to do this properly but I do have a profit on my portfolio (not very large but I'm only 21 so I have plenty of time). I'm going to eventually decide what to do with a large sum of money I have from some sort of fund (can't remember the exact type) and some of that will go into the stocks and bonds account. I have Canadian bonds to lessen the risk from standard volatility of the stock market and I own shares of companies from North America, Europe and Asia.

I work at a stockbroking firm. I haven't put anything together yet because I'm quite CAUTIOUS about the fact that I'll be investing while working at the firm; it might possibly mean I won't be able to invest in certain things/work in certain departments idk. I'm getting the exact idea about regulations and such and then I'm probably going to try my hand at it myself. I know that there's certain restrictions I have just because of what my firm own already! The classic advice I always hear is to have a very diverse portfolio rather than one type of investment or one particular shareholding etc so I intend to do that. It's never a bad idea to have a cash ISA/your country's equivalent (if there is one!) as that money is usually about as safe as it can be! (Plus you make a little less of a loss in comparison to inflation than you would otherwise)

...I'm actually going to be quite careful about blabbing on about my thoughts on various investments etc. tho. It's never a good idea to talk about one's work too much! If I were to give advice that backfired, that could be very problematic. 8D

    AMD!

Yeah, I really like the idea of finances and securities. I'm such a mastermind when it comes to certain industries and how things are looking, and I'm so confident in those investments if I could actually make them. I'm about to get an income going that'll be a few hundred bucks a month at least and after a bit I'd save I'd have enough to go onto some online brokerage or whatever and watch my pennies turn into billions. Or I could eat into my savings for it... but should I do that? :P

    Why would you own bonds?

I am invested in mutual funds, individual stocks, and ETFs.

    Dividends or bust.
