Another one got caught today, it's all over the papers. "Teenager
Arrested in Computer Crime Scandal", "Hacker Arrested after Bank
Tampering"...

**** kids. They're all alike.

But did you, in your three-piece psychology and 1950's
technobrain, ever take a look behind the eyes of the hacker? Did you ever
wonder what made him tick, what forces shaped him, what may have molded
him?
I am a hacker, enter my world...
Mine is a world that begins with school... I'm smarter than most
of the other kids, this crap they teach us bores me...
**** underachiever. They're all alike.

I'm in junior high or high school. I've listened to teachers
explain forthe fifteenth time how to reduce a fraction. I understand it.
"No, Ms. Smith, I didn't show my work. I did it in my head..."

**** kid. Probably copied it. They're all alike.

I made a discovery today. I found a computer. Wait a second,
this is cool. It does what I want it to. If it makes a mistake, it's
because I screwed it up. Not because it doesn't like me...

Or feels threatened by me...

Or thinks I'm a smart ***...

Or doesn't like teaching and shouldn't be here...
**** kid. All he does is play games. They're all alike.

And then it happened... a door opened to a world... rushing through
the phone line like heroin through an addict's veins, an electronic pulse is
sent out, a refuge from the day-to-day incompetencies is sought... a board
is found.
"This is it... this is where I belong..."
I know everyone here... even if I've never met them, never talked to
them, may never hear from them again... I know you all...
**** kid. Tying up the phone line again. They're all alike...

You bet your *** we're all alike... we've been spoon-fed baby food
at school when we hungered for steak... the bits of meat that you did let
slip through were pre-chewed and tasteless. We've been dominated by
sadists, or ignored by the apathetic.

The few that had something to teach found us willing pupils, but those
few are like drops of water in the desert.

This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch,
the beauty of the baud. We make use of a service already existing
without paying for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn't run by profiteering
gluttons, and you callus criminals.

We explore... and you call us criminals. We seek after knowledge... and
you call us criminals. We exist without skin color, without nationality,
without religious bias... and you call us criminals. You build atomic
bombs, you wage wars, you murder, cheat, and lie to us and try to make us
believe it's for our own good, yet we're the criminals.

Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is
that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look
like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never
forgive me for.

I am a hacker, and this is my manifesto. You may stop this
individual, but you can't stop us all... after all, we're all alike.

The do's and don'ts of stolen Overhead Accounts. (Taken from the web page created by the author of "Hacker Comics".)

• Do explore AOL. Staff areas, system info, etc. are now within your grasp.
• Don't waste time. It may sound silly because OH's aren't billed but what if the owner of the account wants to log on while you are already on? You can kiss your precious OH goodbye.
• Don't send or recieve e-mail. I guess you could, but erase all records of them ever being there.
• Don't screw with the preferences. This one's obvious.
• Don't scroll!! I know it's fun; you can never be booted but you are just wasting the account this way.
• Do frequent the ARC. It's a goldmine of info for a wannabe hacker.
• Don't go into member chat rooms. If your SN is recognized, you are pretty much screwed unless you can play the part of the OH's real owner.
• Don't post/reply to any message boards or newsgroups. This should be obvious.
• Don't read your OH's new mail. Even if you choose "keep as new", it still shows the sender that the mail has been read. Instead, read the sent and old mail. You can learn more about your OH this way.
• Don't IM TOSAdvisor and tell him he's fired ^_^.
• If you can, make a sub account from your OH so you can have your own mailbox, set your own preferences, and be recognized by your handle.

Oh yeah, one more thing...QUIT ASKING PEOPLE TO GIVE YOU OH'S!!! I really hate that. No one would be foolish enough to give up an OH, for any reason. Don't ask for 'em and don't tell anyone that you have one.​

(Smack)

Posted on: America Online (using WAOL 2.5)Pete,The situation started at 18:16 when I recieved mail from Guide Fox at Zen Toswhich stated:"We have a guide with a possible hacked account, that was just signed online,and now it is the guide online (I know, he's sitting behind me) He is beingIM'd by an screenname "Security" Is this name legit?"I looked up the Security account and saw that it was internal and IMed guidefox asking for more info. The following is that conversation:Guide FOX: Here's what happened...Derek tried to sign on and his account wasalready signed on and in a private room....I IM'd him to see if I got ananswer and boom the guy signed off...Derek got on on his name and theSecurity guy IM'd him to ask what happened...Guide FOX: Now I'm getting pagers about someone hacking a guide account &being in private room "MacWarez" :/Zen TOS: what is the guides screen name?Guide FOX: Guide WOWZen TOS: is guide wow signed on now ?Guide FOX: Yes.Zen TOS: has he changed the passwords?Guide FOX: Not yet.Zen TOS: make sure that he does or i will have to can the account ....Guide FOX: Yeah, he will....Zen TOS: were there any screen names mentioned in the pager from macwarez?Guide FOX: Guide WOW & Security, the pager was sent from DHacker2Zen TOS: Was security in macwarez?Guide FOX: That's what I understood.Zen TOS: Did guide wow see security in mac warez?Guide FOX: No, he was just IMing him. He was in a private room but not inthere....he's offline now.Zen TOS: does he have a log of the chat ?Guide FOX: No, it happened right as he signed online. :( I did see it happentho ;/Zen TOS: what did security say to the best of your recollection?Guide FOX: Exactly what he said is "What happened? Where'd you go?" Derekthought it was a legit name, he said "I just got my account hacked" Securitysaid "Oh, I see." and he never IM'd backZen TOS: okk thanks i will be in touch :)Guide FOX: Okie. Man, I don't need this :/During this conversation we began to look into the histories of TOSAdvisor,Security, and Guidewow. This is when we noticed that all accounts had theirpassword info accessed by Tosadvisor. The times the accounts were accessedare: Steve Case-1500, GuideWow-1603 and Security-1609. We asked Jack if hehad been on Tosadvisor and he said he had been on it from 14:30-16:30 and hadonly signed off for a short time to switch computers and had not taken anybreaks so no one else had access to the account during this time. At thispiont I called NOC and talked with Pete Silva and told him everything that weknew, he said he would look into it. I then tried to call Kim and also pagedher. There was no answer at her house and she did not call us. Pam thencalled Charles and he came in (he arrived around 19:30). When Charles camein he changed all the TOS accounts passwords. We talked with Pete at NOC afew more times but found nothing else out about who had done this or for surehow it was accomplished.Things settled down a bit and then Jack(who was signed on to TOSAvisor)recieved an Im from TOSAdvisor which stated:TOSAdvisor: nevermind i'm going to warez or somethingThis Im was recieved sometime between 20:30 and 21:00.I promptly called NOC and talked with Pete, I told him what was going on andwe also called Charles over to look at it also. Pete hung up to see what hecould find out and in a few minutes called back and setup a conference callwith several other people that had been working on the cloaking and morphingproblems. This call lasted for almost an hour and during this call at 21:31I sent them a copy of the IM. I explained in detail both situations and nearthe end of the converstion was asked for your phone number which I looked upon your account and gave to them.This is basically what happened to the best of my recollection. I am alsosending you all the mail and IM's regarding this situation. .Regards,Kyle Korleski
