I would have much more respect for apple if they destroyed OSX, and went straight PC. Then I would see a reason for there existence.
Are you saying you want Apple to become another of the many (Windows) PC manufacturers (HP, Dell, Sony, IBM, Toshiba, etc.) and that would be a good reason for them to exist? That may be a reason, but that's certainly not a good reason. There are so many (Windows) PC manufacturers already in that market, there would be no point for Apple to join them. Plus, I, along with
many more people than you, would curse Apple forever if they ever started putting Vista on their computers. Apple's reason for existence right now, is much more important and consequential then what you want them to be. Apple's purpose right now (disregarding the other stuff they do, as well as to make money (which is what almost every company exists for)), is to offer an alternative to the abomination that is Windows Vista. And, I, for one, appreciate that alternative.
1. I don't see a reason for them to really exist. There running Intel processors now...its just a more pretty PC pretty much.
I'm afraid that makes no sense as Linux also runs on the x86 architechure, but that doesn't mean there is no reason for it to exist. In addition, most people who buy Macs don't care as much about the architechure the OS runs on. People usually buy Macs to use the OS.
