This has been bothering me for a long while, and I could never solve it.

What is the prefered level to evolve a Growlithe?

From a competitive standpoint, anything before level 49 is good. Only Arcanine learns a nice Extremespeed at level 49, so you don't want to miss that. Otherwise, Growlithe doesn't really learn any important moves that you might NEED.

In Fire Red I evolved it at 37 I think.

Arcanine learns Extremespeed at 39 in DPPt, and Growlithe learns Flare Blitz at 48. They're both good physical attacks, but Flare Blitz is more powerful and gets STAB, but doesn't have priority.

[EDIT] Nevermind. I just looked it up, and Growlithe can get Flare Blitz as an egg move. XP

you were right actually , he can get Flare Blitz from both at level 48 and as an egg move . Arcanine can still get ExtremeSpeed through Move Tutor ( Not Platinum ) , so no worries about getting the best Physical attacks arcanine has ^^
