Arceus - how it should be

  • Ever since I've seen the data behind Arceus, and its formes, it felt unfinished to me.

First of all, it is closely related to Dialga/Palkia/Giratina, which is also why it has the same facial design.
Because of this, it would only make sense for it to have a secondary Dragon type.
    ->Normal/Dragon

Giving it plates would then simply change it's primary type (Normal) to the type of each plate.
The immediate realization is that this means every Dragon combination.
The only issue this creates is of course the Draco plate, which would merely make it lose Normal. In other words it would become a pure Dragon type.
But this won't be the only change after the next adjustment (hence remaining interesting regardless).

    Its stats.
    It has all these formes.
Many think of it as the uber of the ubers.
Looking at its stats (120 across the board), it looks more like a prototype, or a plain uber legendary. Unspecialized.

Whenever formes for pokemon are introduced, they mostly bring serious stat-changes along.
Now, wouldn't it be interesting if Arceus' stats changed along with the forme?
That would result in 16 different stats.
16 somewhat distinct new dragon pokemon in the uber metagame... oh dear.

So I have been contemplating that idea every now and then over the past months.

As with all formes, the HP would of course stay the same as initial: 120.
This leaves 5 stats to distribute in 16 ways.

16 divides nicely by 4, which gave me the first step in creating interesting stats:
4 formes would focus on one status each, and that would be the main status of that forme. As with most of the uber legends, they tend to have their best stat a nice 150 (including Dialga/Palkia/Giratina), so it would be very fitting to use that.

I picked the status each type would focus on as obvious as conceptually suiting as I could
    150 Special Attack:
    -Ice
    -Electric
    -Fire
    -Psychic
    150 Defense:
    -Steel
    -Rock
    -Ghost
    -Poison
    150 Special Defense:
    -Water
    -Grass
    -Ground
    -Flying
    150 Attack:
    -Fighting
    -Dragon
    -Dark
    -Bug

Since Speed was excluded for the sake of equal distribution across the formes, I figured it could stay the same as it is for the Normal Arceus: 120

Now each forme had 30 stats of the 720 left to distribute.
I used these to further distinguish the formes that utilize the same 150 status, by adding it to the other stats in the most fitting way again:

    150 Special Attack:
    -Ice DEF+30
    -Electric SPE+30
    -Fire ATK+30
    -Psychic SP.D+30
    150 Defense:
    -Steel SP.D+30
    -Rock ATK+30
    -Ghost SP.A+30
    -Poison SPE+30
    150 Special Defense:
    -Water SP.A+30
    -Grass DEF+30
    -Ground ATK+30
    -Flying SPE+30
    150 Attack:
    -Fighting DEF+30
    -Dragon SP.A+30
    -Dark SP.D+30
    -Bug SPE+30

So the final result (sorted in order by stat cobminations) is this:
    493 Arceus-----120 -120 -120 -120 -120 -120 -- 720 - Normal Dragon -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-Fg---120 -150 -130 -100 -100 -120 -- 720 - Fight- Dragon -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-Dr--120 -150 -100 -130 -100 -120 -- 720 - Dragon ------ -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-Da--120 -150 -100 -100 -130 -120 -- 720 - Dark-- Dragon -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-B---120 -150 -100 -100 -100 -150 -- 720 - Bug--- Dragon -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-R---120 -130 -150 -100 -100 -120 -- 720 - Rock-- Dragon -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-Gh---120 -100 -150 -130 -100 -120 -- 720 - Ghost- Dragon -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-S---120 -100 -150 -100 -130 -120 -- 720 - Steel- Dragon -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-Po--120 -100 -150 -100 -100 -150 -- 720 - Poison Dragon -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-Fr--120 -130 -100 -150 -100 -120 -- 720 - Fire-- Dragon -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-I---120 -100 -130 -150 -100 -120 -- 720 - Ice--- Dragon -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-Ps--120 -100 -100 -150 -130 -120 -- 720 - Psy--- Dragon -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-E---120 -100 -100 -150 -100 -150 -- 720 - Elect- Dragon -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-Gr--120 -130 -100 -100 -150 -120 -- 720 - Ground Dragon -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-Gs---120 -100 -130 -100 -150 -120 -- 720 - Grass- Dragon -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-W---120 -100 -100 -130 -150 -120 -- 720 - Water- Dragon -- Multitype
    493 Arceus-Fl--120 -100 -100 -100 -150 -150 -- 720 - Flying Dragon -- Multitype

And that is what the following picture is showing.
The stats in the picture go from the outer edge to the center: HP-ATK-DEF-SPA-SPD-SPE

Arceus - how it should be

Would any of them be to imbalanced? Would the amount of dragons in ubers rise too far? Or would this actually do it justice?

  • This is really interesting idea and I love the graph you made.
But... you see... adding Dragon would give Arceus unnecessary weaknesses to Ice and Dragon.
Arceus, as a god, should have as little weaknesses as possible.
And they probably didn't want to give him Ghost/Dark typing because he's light :D

Ash493 is absolutely right. But your concept of different stats is quite interesting. I always run a Special Sweeper Arceus with adequate Special defense and speed, so i always end up having to grow a lot of Kelpsy berries. I would like if Arceus' Stats could change with its type. That would make it even more unpredictable.
However in the movie, Arceus used all the plates to dominate the Creation trio. In the game it is limited to only one plate allowing it to be easily overpowered by an opposing type.
I hope Gamefreak do take an idea from the fan's books.

  • It's a cool idea, but how did you decide which stat would go with which type? It'd be hard to pinpoint a certain stat since there's obviously multiple Pokemon in each type specializing in different areas.

  • It's a cool idea, but how did you decide which stat would go with which type? It'd be hard to pinpoint a certain stat since there's obviously multiple Pokemon in each type specializing in different areas.

I was trying to assign the 16 stat variations to the types in a way that felt the most inherent to the type itself, not necessarily even related to what stats the currently available pokemon of each type employ.
So for example there are't really that many poison pokes with high defense, but poison is a good defensive type...
Actually I went from the most obvious, down to figuring how the rest fit on the rest of stats.

I started with the 4 spots for 150 Sp.Atk, because, I'm confident, anyone would put the core elemental types there (Electric, Fire, Ice), and definitely include Psychic before anything more.

In that group it was also pretty straight forward which secondary stat to set. In other words which stat would be 130, with Fire being the agressive in the group, Electric being the fast one, Ice the defensive, and Psychic Sp.Def.

Then took in some more of the obvious, like Steel and Rock for 150 Defense along with Fighting and Dragon for 150 Attack. Leaving 2 spots on both groups...

Then I realised Water and Grass were definitely going to Sp.Def... with Water being the Sp.attacker, and grass the defense.

So there were 2 spots left in 150 Atk/Def/Sp.Def, and these types: Poison,Bug,Ground,Flying,Ghost,Dark

Ghost caught my attention as the clearly superior defensive type, with its secondary hopefully being sp.Atk, while I quickly gave Rock 130 Atk and Steel 130 in the other defense. Leaving room for a speedy DEF type.
I don't really have clear arguments for throwing around the rest, but it just felt like the best distribution for what was left, with Dark and Bug being the left 150 ATK, and Ground and Flying the ATK and speedy 150 Sp.DEfs respectively...

If you see any you would switch, it would be fun to read about, especially if it makes even more sense in the end.
