Are Americans overweight?

^ Just curious, what is a common breakfast in Britain? I actually don't wake up till 11 AM, because I hate pretty much every standard breakfast food. So, I end up eating lunch right when I wake up instead lol. (Of course, I have to eat again at like 10-12PM. lol)

I also hate butter, and I'm not a huge fan of syrup. So, I eat pancakes/waffles dry, or with just a tiny amount of syrup on them. (If I eat them at all... like I said, I don't really like them to begin with.)

Well you can hear on TV a lot about US being an obese country.
Can't really say from my point of view since I've never been to states!

Well, America has more money -> people can buy more food -> people eat more food. Other countries don't have our luck.
I don't see the logic in that. The more money you have, the more you can spend on healthy food. Cost, nutrition and taste are all factors so where you usually find the overweight people is where someone is unwilling to pay much at all for food and too stubborn to give up a particular flavor/taste.

Now, it's true that there is a substantial correlation in Western society between national income and obesity rates. But this is caused by the increased production of food, not people being able to buy more of it just because one individual has more money. On the opposite end of the spectrum, though, both individual and corporate income would play a role.

It's because for some reason in the States healthy foods are obscenely priced when compared with sugary and fatty foods. At least when compared with the prices in Canada.

I don't know about the Canada part, but you're right about health foods being overpriced. It's ridiculous that organic food is double the amount that their preservative counterparts cost. Most people I know don't buy healthy food because they're so much more expensive.

Schools, I'd have to say, play a role in our youth's health more than they know. They serve us corn dogs and hamburgers, at a hefty price might I add, drowned in grease. Gym/P.E. isn't an issue where I live. It's mandatory but kids are still overweight. Why?

I blame advertisement and a McDonald's on every block. Disgusting.

Not ALL of America is overweight.
I'm pretty sure i'm a healthy weight. I don't exercise or play sports or lift weights or anything and i'm 5'11" and 150lbs.

I'd love to start eating healthier but I hate so many cool vegetables like lettuce, tomato, and stuff. That and those damn fast food places make such good food.
I did try to cut down on drinking soda for a while. I drank one every two days, with water and juice inbetween. Now i'm back up to 3 or 4 sodas a day and ice water whenever I run out until I can get more.

And to add to the pancake/waffle discussion, I use WAY too much syrup D:
I drown my waffles in it, and I scoop up whats left on the plate with french toast.
