Are Legendaries really unique?

There seems to be some proof for this. There are at least two Heatran in Sinnoh - the one in Stark Mountain, and the one that Palmer uses. Plus it can have a gender. Manaphy, of course, can make eggs, and there is a Zapdos nest in Pokemon Snap.

My theory is that the Pokemon we view as one-of-a-kind legendaries are simply extremely rare, powerful, and shy. They only breed when no one is around (like normal animals), so there is no proof. No one ever saw two of the same legendary species at the same time, so they believe them to be one-of Pokemon.

Also, history becomes diluted over time. Perhaps people passed down legends of these Pokemon, and so when we play the games it's believed by everyone that they are truly unique.

One of the features I would like to see in Gen V is a way to breed these legendaries.

    What do you think?

No breeding legendaries! It ruins the fact that they are legendary pokemon. I just ignore the Manaphy/Phione situation and the fact that some trainers in the game own legendary pokemon...

I miss what legendary pokemon used to be. :(

Yeah, I agree. If legends were truly unique, I think you should only be able to get them in one game. Like you can only get Mew, Mewtwo, and the birds in the 1st gen. games, ect.

That would ruin the whole "legendary" title if we could bread them. Then they will be way too common. Its much more fun if you have to work hard to get them.

breeding legendaries? Im for it and against it. It takes away from them being legendary. But I think that there should be an acception to at least 1 legendary to breed. Like you breed a legendary and the child will unlock some special event in a game.

    Nooo !

Breed Legends ? WHY ? To totally ruin the Legend System of Anti-Breeding ?
I am also against it !
And have you thought ? At the TRU Arceus Event , so many ppl came and so many Arceus as the number of games were released .
Is that like 300.000 Arceus (just a guess...) ?

No breeding, legendaries won't be rare and if you have party of 6 Azelf at lvl1 (just an example), that is weird!

Breeding legendaries doesn't sit well with me. I can just imagine the likes of Mewtwo wreaking havoc as it "does its breeding thing" with some random Ditto. And the devastation that results simply isn't worth it :P

Other trainers will only have legendaries in the Battle Tower/Frontier, which is one more reason I hate those places. They ruin the whole storyline, so to speak.

Some legendaries have multiples of the same species, such as Articuno, Heatran, Entei... but the more "epic", ancient legendaries such as Rayquaza and Palkia are one-of-kind.

As with Entei, one is born from the volcanoes when the other dies, if I remember correctly. So Entei is unique, if you're not using game logic. :/ With game logic, nothing is unique. Palmer imported the Regi trio from his Emerald cart, took them all to Snowpoint Temple, and got Regigigas. He teamed up with Buck, found that rock, and went back and got Heatran. The story goes on. And what about the games with the legendaries that aren't in the main game? Like people using the dog trio on Mt. Battle in Pokemon XD.

Interpret it how you want, I suppose.

    Insert random filler here.

Yes, all legendaries are unique, which is why I have 2 freakin Arceuseses, the "god" of all pokemons. :/

Oh and would anyone like a spare phione? XD

Breeding them sucks. It wouldn't be legendary anymore. It would just be a run-of-the-mill pokemon with high stats. Plus, I think that the fact that you can catch them so easily (Rayquaza Sky Pillar, Azelf Valor Lake, etc.) defeats the purpose of them being "legendary." If they were even a bit harder to obtain, it would be truly legendary. The other thing is, is that it's legendary. Who says that they even exist? Pokemon should at least once make a legendary/mythical pokemon that doesn't exist/really hard to find. Most of those legendaries are offered up on a silver platter (i.e. Rayquaza, Dialga/Palkia, etc.)

TBH, even if NPCs had no legendaries, that fact that if you Wi-Fi battle someone, 9 times out of 10 they've got a legendary.

Oh yes, Legendaries are unique. That's why 3,700,000,000,000 people have them.

I'm pretty sure there are like heaps of Palkia and Dialga all travelling through time and space, or at least I heard someone say that somewhere.

Yeah, legendaries just aren't special anymore with a billion being added in the fourth generation. Breeding them would further take away from this. They wouldn't be legendary anymore if they were so common.
