I've been playing Pokemon from the start, but a couple days ago I saw this article, it was talking about how the games are just getting repetitive. What do you think? Personally, I find there is new things in each edition, but very little changes in the gameplay. With HeartGold and SoulSilver coming out with the Pokemon Pedometer, they might help to change up some of the old formula.

What do you think? Are we just playing the same game?

It's certainly the same formula, but they add new things in every time. With the second generation we got day and night, different PokéBalls, the beginning of the Berries. Third gen we got Pokémon contests, and we might have lost day and night but we gained running shoes and improved gameplay and graphics. I guess the last two can also be said for fourth gen. Fourth gen we got the use of the touch screen and this is where I start running out of ideas xD

And of course, we get new Pokémon with every generation.

You can't say they don't try and add new things, even if the format stays the same. The fact is that the format works. Look how successful the Pokémon franchise is!

That was a bit of a ramble and I'm not sure if it answered much. Sorry if that's the case xD

i think they are kinda the same, but how else would they make a good pokemon game. also they keep games fresh by makin new regions and pokemon

all they really change is adding new pokemon..........other then that its pretty much the same

Their pretty much all the same. You follow the same system for everything. I realize that they make new pokemon and new regions, but they could atleast change the way you play in the region. Instead of gym leaders they should just have you do other stuff. What other stuff is I can't think of at the moment.

Between new graphics, pokemon, moves, types, characters, and other features added every new game, I think the old Pokemon formula is still fresh. At least they are not trying to make the games original by turning them into something they're not and ruining the integrity of the game. I think the only bad thing that has been done to Pokemon is the making of an uncountable number of legendaries. Getting back to the topic I have beaten Yellow, Gold, Crystal, Sapphire, Emerald, Leaf Green, Diamond and almost Platinum and i plan on getting Heart Gold.

i'll admitt the pokemon in all the games follow the same patten but as for the samplay and story its always changing. i remeber in R/B all you did is walk from town to town beating gyms the going to the e4. the only team you are not doing that is when you go to the haunted tower, bett team rocket in the game corner and help the captian on the boat. but playing the newer games like D/P i was happy to see you actuly had to do go back and forth doing all kinds of things

Well ya really all they added to Pokemon Platinum was Vid. recorder, WI-fi Plaza ( boring..) Changed the Wi-Fi club. and changed the sprites, added forms, and battle froniter. so ya i really think think we are playing the new game! I really just bought Platinum cause i like the new sprites.. XD and i thougt the Wi-Fi Plaza would be fun but's it's really boring and you like cna never get into a game! Geez.. XD

I think they had a good idea when they tried to break off the chain with pokemon Colosseum. It was something brand new and you could still keep and trade all the pokemon you used on it. They need to keep developing some sort of alternate story line instead of just the same old thing and not make it a console game. Pokemon has always been best as a hand held. It would be interesting if they made some sort of game where you were a pokemon theif or something else. It would be interesting if they had a game that was a choose your own destiny kind of thing where you had several options of ways you can go. The only thing they need to maintain is tradability and interactiveness between all the pokemon games, otherwise no one will get it.

But that's just a dream i guess. For now we're basically just playing updated versions of the same game. I wish they were at least like g/s/c where there really was something to do after the E4. Also they killed the contests in the new gen, they aren't even interesting anymore.

I don't actually really know XD Maybe we are, but then again, they make new pokemon every so often, and improve on a lot of things.

Who cares if we are playing just the same game? It's fun!
