How serious do you take the game? Are you the type of person who enters tourneys? EV's all day all night. Or do you just play every once in awhile for the colors it has to offer xD Discuss I wanna know what you guys n girls are into.

I mean im a competitive player but i dont make every set of pokemon on smogon and ev/iv all day and night ( no one does that btw )
I would probably quit playing if competition was taken out of pokemon, it wouldn't be fun anymore, the social aspect is what makes pokemon interesting

I do a occasional battle over at Smogon, and here at Pokecommunity sometimes. I take the game semi-serious. As I only have at least 4 competitive Pokemon Teams ready for battle. But that alone took months to create and piece together. I have never entered a Pokemon Tourney once either..

I typically play just for the sake of playing the game, however I have my competitive Pokemon on Platinum, just in case I ever run into someone that wants to battle. I don't have Wi-Fi, though so it's never Wi-Fi battles. And I used to play on Shoddy, and I was pretty good. I wasn't amazing, but I did win most of my battles, so no complaints there.

I wanna say yes and no, it's kinda weird for me.
I find the entire aspect really interesting, that there are parts of the games that go beyond having a type advantage against an NPC whose team remains pretty much the same throughout the course of the game. I like seeing how changing a hold item and a few stats and moves makes a Pokémon entirely different to use and counter. Plus the fact that you can't revive/heal any Pokémon in need makes it more challenging, which makes it more interesting for me.
I'm not like, obsessive over it though, probably because I'm still really new to the whole thing. I care about having good IVs/natures and the right EV spreads, but just because a Pokémon doesn't have 31 across the board doesn't mean it's useless to me either. I also find EV training a little boring after too long, probably because I don't have any power items (yet) to expedite the process, so I rely on my Exp. Share and Macho Brace to pull their own weight which only goes so far.
If they took the competitive aspect out somehow (not sure how they would), I'd probably run out of things to do really quickly. It's the only reason I keep playing after I beat the Elite Four.
Oh, I've never really played on Shoddy (not sure if it's working correctly yet), and honestly I'm kinda shy when it comes to things like that. >_>

To a degree, yes. I avoid standard OU fare teams like the plague...instead being creative and create monotype teams, weather condition support teams, and other misc. themed teams. I like breeding for specific natures and egg moves and EV training, but I rarely if ever take my teams on wifi...they usually stay between me and whoever ends up with my friend code. XD

well, i don't really do competitive, but i prefer more to make it harder every time i play it, more different. I'm the kind of player that prefers solo gaming that pvp, even in my brief WoW period lol.

Every time i beat emerald, i move onto a harder hack like Rijon adventures or just play with making it harder on myself in mind again.
this time i hacked a beldum as the starter, with a higher max xp so i level slower... ouch xD
just got a trapinch, and plan on getting a flygon two gyms later lol.

Yeah,I am a competive battler.Yes I still do runs and chalenges in game but I still put of some time for "Non AI Battling" I battly very frenquently on Shoddy (smogon University and Pokecommunity Server) and after the release of HG/SS after i did the main game i decided to EV train some pokes.I currently have a Specs. Moltres and a Screen Rotom (The Original BL/UU one)

I don't enter tournaments both because of the fact that only a lucky few can access them and the fact that they're infested with people who use the same pokémon over and over again with the same kind of training and mostly the same moves as everyone else (just like in the general competitive area), and if you don't resort back into their unoriginality then you're screwed.
    Same. :3

I'm competitive I suppose. I EV train (Which only takes about 10-30 minutes, contrary to popular belief.) and I breed for decent IVs, they don't have to be perfect. I don't play OU anymore, since that has gotten incredibly boring. I ran into Swampert 11 times in a row on shoddy. Lately I haven't been battling, but I'll probably start doing some NU soon.

It's hard for me to answer this question, because I mostly switch back in forth. xD

Sometimes, I EV train, IV breed and battle, but I get bored of it sometimes and just play for the kicks of it. I'm basically in-between competitive battling and playing it for fun.

I am the best pokemon player in my school.Well,I have beaten all my friends at multiplayer pokemon emerald.I can say that I am a very competitive player.

No, I am not a competitive player and just play the game for the sake of it; besides the awesome fun! Err, I don't spend hours and hours on my EV/IV training, and generally don't spend much time training either. But I do have to admitt, the colours and visuals make me wanna get some more, okus if I have just got a new pokemon game I would spend a couple of housr playing ti and getting used to the new features and improvments.

I do not become obsessive over winning nor am I a sore loser, I like to battle but not to competitively. I don't take to much time with the moves, but I do care and wont have my pokemon know crappy moves just for the sake of saving 5-10 minutes of teaching them TM's and training them. Blabber Blabber Blabber, I better shutup now. :cer_giggle:

I'm pretty sure all my favourites are UU... if not NU. XD; Though it should be obvious, I am not a competitive player.

    Every so often I'll end up on Smogon and read a bunch of articles. It's definitely helped me understand battling much better, but I still feel so overwhelmed when I think about fitting it all together. I can look at a Pokémon and pick out an okay moveset for it but when it comes to building a team and making them all work together I just... can't do it. I get too confused. XD; That and I don't think I could ever get the right mindset for it (and omg, making a team without a Cherrim? Blasphemy!) so... I'm fine ignoring it. @_@;;

I will breed for natures and I've even EV trained before... and I'm actually thinking of figuring out IVs one of these days! But otherwise, I have no desire to dive any deeper into it. :|

Through experience, I guarentee all of you that now a days in a world of strategies and perfected movesets, E.V training is a must if you want to even stand a chance in battles, and I'm not even talking about movesets, abilities or even Hidden Power types.

So yes, I am just for the sole purpose of "staying in the game".

I enter tournaments at anime conventions and such, but my Pokemon team runs the gamut from UU to OU. I believe Erika once said, "I would never use a Pokemon if it were unattractive," and I follow the same philosophy. I do give my Pokemon their optimal movesets and the regular natures/Hidden Power/IV/EV training regimen, but I'm not strict about what Smogon says about tiers and specific movesets. At most, I use it as general guidance.

And I've never crafted a team for use on Shoddy. I'd much rather use my own team in the games themselves.
