Wanna know anything about Umbreon ask me.
NAME: Umbreon
TYPE: Moonlight (Dark)
HEIGHT: 3' 3"
WEIGHT: 60 lbs.
EVOLUTION: evolves from Eevee when Eevee's Happiness Rating is sufficiently raised during the night
AVAILIBLE IN: Gold, Silver, Crystal
LOCATION: Umbreon will not deign to eke out a meager existence in the wild; the only way to find her is by coaxing an Eevee into adoring you during the blackest of night. If you need an Eevee to woo, Bill hangs out in Goldenrod City and is just itching to give his away to a total stranger. You can also pick one up at the Celadon City Game Corner for a whopping 6666 coins, and RBY players will find Eevee in the Celadon City Mansion (the same place you get the Curse TM in GSC; I think the game is trying to tell us Eevee WANTS to evolve into something evil).

Umbreon is more than worthy of being the only pure Dark type in the game as this moveset is absolutely, unforgivably evil to the very core. You wanna know your odds against this baby? If you're one of the six Steel types in the game, this Umbreon can't touch you. If you're Heracross or Machamp, you *might* have a chance to take Umbreon out before Toxic finishes you off (and that's only if she has no one left to switch out with/Baton Pass to). If you have Roar or Whirlwind you could feasibly escape Mean Look, and if you're one of those Pokemon for whom Rest is a standard move you can only hope that Umbreon's Toxic runs out of PP before your Rest does. If you're one of the 200 or so Pokemon that doesn't fall under one of these headings and you have no one to pseudo-pass a Safeguard to you, you might as well kiss your butt goodbye the second you step into the ring with this bad girl. That's really all there is to it.
Mean Look is a beautiful, beautiful move. I'd say it's a shame that more Pokemon can't learn it, but I suppose if more Pokemon COULD learn Mean Look it would cheapen the experience for those few that learn it naturally today. Furthermore, it is my honest opinion that Umbreon is paws-down the best Mean Looker in the game, given her defensive stats. I mean, what good is a Mean Looking Gengar who absorbs one Earthquake and dies the turn after using Mean Look? Bring Umbreon out against something that won't fare too well against her and use Mean Look right away. Either your opponent will remain trapped in the arena with Umbreon or else it will be switched out before Umbreon has a chance to use the move...unlike most Mean Lookers, though, at this point Umbreon has the option of Baton Passing out to something which is more effective against the new foe and they'll find themselves stuck fast all the same. De-NIED, fool!
Okay, let's say you used Mean Look and your opponent DIDN'T switch out (or switched in something equally ineffective against Umbreon). Now is the time to use Toxic. Phlork! Then just sit back and watch your opponent wither and die in agony whilst you idly restore your HP with Moonlight or use Mean Look repeatedly to waste time and taunt them. Slow death by purple goo; what could be sweeter? You'll notice this Umbreon has no outright offensive moves with which to barrage the opponent during your down time...well, why should she? Umbreon's offensive stats are fairly lame and I see little reason to waste a move slot that could have gone to an annoyer strategy move on a flat-out attacking move that won't do much damage.
"Oh, no...I used Mean Look and my opponent switched in Scizor; what do I do?" Why, you Baton Pass out to Rapidash or Ninetales or one of their ilk, naturally. "Ah, I see...I Baton Pa--wait a second! Umbreon can't even LEARN Baton Pass!" You think not? Look again. In Crystal Eevee dropped the incredibly lame Focus Energy to learn the move Baton Pass at level 36. In much the same way as she is the game's best Mean Looker, this chick feels Umbreon is far and away the best Baton Passer in the game (just take a look at her stats compared to Aipom's and Girafarig's). She may not be able to Baton Pass popular moves like Agility, Amnesia or Swords Dance, but I am of the opinion that Baton Passing a Mean Look is more than enough. Just think of the possibilities! You could use Mean Look on Wobbuffet, Baton Pass out to Scizor, and use Swords Dance and Agility to your heart's content while Wobbuffet sits there trembling like the complete waste of real estate that it is. The only thing I dislike about Baton Pass is that Eevee learns the move at level 36 while Umbreon learns Confuse Ray at level 30. Unless you feel like going through Pokemon Stadium 2's Gym Leader Castle to use the Forgotten TM on Confuse Ray and/or raising a pair of Eevee to level 36 so their offspring knows Baton Pass at birth, you'd better just get used to the idea that your Umbreon won't have both Baton Pass and Confuse Ray. Though I loathe having to dismiss my very favorite move, in Umbreon's case there are simply many more moves which would fill up this spot more reasonably.
Moonlight is the last move and, though a few other Pokemon can learn it, I will always consider Moonlight to be Umbreon's signature move. She IS the "Moonlight Pokemon", after all. Though I generally don't care for moves in the vein of Recover (particularly since most of the Pokemon who can learn them are insanely fragile Psychic types like Alakazam and Umbreon's sister Espeon), Moonlight actually works exceedingly well on Umbreon thanks to her colossal defensive stats. You'll be taking steady damage as you wait for the clock to run out on a badly poisoned opponent, and while Umbreon has the defenses to endure such assaults with good grace it's still nice to be able to freshen up your HP before taking on your next victim. Leftovers will also be doing their part to help...with Leftovers, Moonlight, both defensive stats over 300 and an HP nearing 400, taking an Umbreon down will definitely NOT be the easiest task you'll ever faced in this game.
Believe it or not, many people opt to play Umbreon as an attacker rather than an annoyer. I don't know how anyone could resist playing with such a deliciously evil moveset, personally, but if that's yer pleasure then you do have a few options. You can give Umbreon the Curse TM or let her keep the Screech technique she learns naturally; such moves will compensate for her lack of offensive power at the beginning of the match. Slide Shadow Ball in there and you have a Pokemon that would make even the mighty Mewtwo wet himself. If you're planning on boosting your Attack or lowering your enemies' Defense you might also consider Body Slam (which you'll have to send Eevee back to RBY for); Umby isn't exactly a speed demon and I'm sure she'll appreciate the high chance of paralysis that Body Slam affords.
No matter how one choose to utilize Umbreon, there's no denying that she is one powerful, intriguing and altogether dangerous Pokemon. The darkest chapter in the Eevee saga to date, Umbreon is an ideal choice for any trainer looking for a creature that can win through underhanded means and defend, defend, defend. Whether you want to use her as an attacker, an annoyer or merely another dust collector in your PC box, you'd do well to treat Umbreon with the respect she deserves lest you wake up in the middle of the night to find her snacking on your immortal soul *cue creepy music*.
