    Austin's Game Journal

Alright so it's my turn to make a journal! I'm not currently participating in the Year of Gaming Challenge (for now, until I can commit to finishing games), but I wanted my own journal to keep track of the various games I play and inevitably fail to complete!

    Final Fantasy XIV

So I was convinced to give FFXIV a shot by all the lovely people in the PC Discord, and I gotta say, I'm having a lot of fun with it. The free trial gives an overwhelmingly generous amount of content! I'm most impressed at how well it plays on a controller; it's extremely well-optimized. I was really concerned because my only MMO experience has been with WoW and I couldn't imagine how controlling all the menus and abilities would be possible, but FFXIV pulls it off in way that's beginner friendly too.

First steps of a new adventure!

I started as a Lalafell lancer and began my adventure! I had a great time designing my character because Final Fantasy hair is incredible. The main gameplay loop of questing/running dungeons/keeping up to date with abilities/gear is all very familiar to me, so I feel like I breezed through my first 30 levels, upgrading to the Dragoon job! It was around this time that I remembered that, unlike WoW, you're not locked in to any class/role, so I took a little break from the main story to level as a Conjurer/White Mage. Healing dungeons was the main thing I did in WoW, and I've been having the most fun healing in this game too. It's like playing Whack-a-Mole, watching health bars. :P
    Spoiler:

I'm having a blast playing, and I think I want to level up as an Archer a bit before I probably switch back to Dragoon to continue the main story quests. Shoutout to the FFXIV veterans in the PC Discord for helping out and cheering me on. I appreciate you guys!

    Animal Crossing: New Horizons

    [PokeCommunity.com] Austin's Adventures [AC:NH]

My Final Fantasy XIV adventure is still underway, and I'm still having a great time, but the other day I decided to start up Animal Crossing: New Horizons as well. I see a bunch of people in the PC Discord playing it and although I've owned the game for a few months now, I never actually started it up. With the encouragement of professor plum, I've decided to start playing. I've played literally every single previous Animal Crossing game, but the core gameplay seems to always slip my mind, so each game is always a brand new experience for me. I'm not currently playing any "feel good" games, so this should be fun!

    my passport!

I had a pretty major mishap when I first started the game. I picked a nice design for my island, arrived with my fellow villagers, Diva and Hamlet, set up our tents and began island life. Only when I was asked to name the island, I entered "Wigglt" instead of my intended "Wiggly" Island. So I promptly bid farewell to Hamlet and restarted.

Firefly Island, where my island life will REALLY start
    Spoiler:

After redoing the whole intro, this time with Tank instead of Hamlet, I named my island Firefly Island and started building/fishing/bug-catching and doing as much as I could to progress. I paid off my moving fees very quickly and requested my very first house, which would be ready the next day. I did as much as I could to stock up on supplies, bells, and anything else I needed before signing off for the day.

The next morning, my new house was completed, and I requested the first size upgrade (which I could almost pay off entirely by that point). I also met Blathers, quickly found him enough things to open the museum proper, and collected the materials Tommy and Timmy needed for their shop. I've been spending each day maximizing the amount of things I can realistically do to progress the state of my island, which is working out really nicely thus far.

My house being used as storage until the museum opens
    Spoiler:

Day 3, I have the museum open, the shop open, and things are looking bright. I've built my first bridge and now 3 new residents are moving to my island, for whom I need to help build houses. Also professor plum came to visit and gifted me some clothes, bells, tickets, and DIY recipes! (thank you tyler <3)

I proceeded to thank him by chopping him down in cold blood
    Spoiler:

I'm having a great time so far! I can't wait to start designing my island and home.
