Issue: Avatar Transparency Issue

My avatar shows up fine on my posts, but, on my user profile, it has a white background. I think this is because it's converted to a gif. Is there any way to work around this?

It's displayed as a thumbnail on profiles, which has the unfortunate side-effect of removing transparency. There's no user workaround for this unless the avatar is at a certain, smaller size.

How small?

I'll probably just switch back to a square avatar. I only wanted transparency for the sake of having it be a circle.
