    Well, since the topic of a Charizard came up, I thought I'd put up one of my most prided battle in recent months... This is a team I randomly threw together, hence the strange order of starting with a freaking Zard =P

    Commentary are in bold.

    This is why I love drumzards. It's not that Swordszard sucks, but I always have trouble keeping things alive, so a speed sweeper style of Charizard is perfect for me.

    Battlelogs are certainly allowed last time I checked.

    Besides the 2 hp luck factor, there's also another luck factor: Tyranitar

    Tyranitar's sandstream actually did more help than pain for Charizard's part (well for poor Shedinja that's another case XD). Without the sandstorm damage after 1 sub and 1 drum, the salac berry won't activate as it's right on the border of 25%, while you need your hp lower than 25% to kick in the berry... Though technically, you can say that you can sub again to lower your hp to 1 I suppose... >>;

    Meh. I don't know what I'm saying. It's probably just that I'm highly biased against hating sub+drum zard last time I used one... so terribly angry that Zard still didn't get one single sweep after activating salac at 1 hp with drum and even a sub out >>;
     
    Actually, I have the EVs set up so it WOULD activate at 25%, seeing as Charizard's max HP is divisible by 4. So Sandstream actually did bad =/ *I mean my zard's Max HP*
     
    O.o; but doesn't berries only activate if the amount of hp you got is *lower* than 25%, not just right on 25%? Because if that is the case, why's the common magic formula x/4 + 1, instead of just x/4? Like, if it's available to activate a berry at 25% hp instead of 1 hp, then obviously... people should know what to take...

    Then again, I've never used sub/berry enough to know... I only used it a few times with Alakazam a LONG time ago...
     
    Magic formula is x/4 + 1 because that gives you the chance to go as low as 1 HP, especially useful for Reversal users, just by using Sub and nothing else. It's a slight cheat that gets you four Substitutes instead of 3.
     
    Yes I know. But wrong situation here... I was wondering why the activation for berries is also x/4 + 1... if berries also activate if hp is x/4... ._.; Best way is for someone to try it again with the absense of the sandstream/other influences, and then post a battle log here.
     
    x/4 is subbing to berry, x/4+1 is subbig to berry and reversal/flail i think
     
    yes, X/4 is to activate berry ASAP, while X/4+1 is only applicable for people who want to activate the berry AND have the least HP left over. (Not much point in reversaling if you have 25% of your HP left, eh)
