Bellydrum Charizard

Currently breeding a belly drum charizard:

    Charizard@Salac Berry
    Adamant.

    Fire Fang
    Earthquake
    Belly Drum
    Substitute

Basically, sub then drum, salac gets activated and the sweeping commences.

My main question is does blaze (charizards ability that once health goes lower than 1/3 it boosts power of fire moves) matter? I can't get fire punch on this poke as I don't have the TM for it (I think it is from gold and Silver or something). So does it boost fire fangs power on top of the extra power belly drum gives or should I just give it air slash instead (which has a higher base power than fire fang and is still STAB)?

Cheers in advance for any answers, I'm a bit new to all this and don't understand the boost system particularly well.

Salac Berry does not get activated if you use Sub-drumming since it only takes away 1/4 of your HP. Your HP needs to be in the yellow for it to activate.

-Fire Fang will still gain more power from Blaze.
-Fire Punch isn't a TM outside Gold and Silver. It has to be bred on this time.
-Salac should activate after the 1/4 lost after Sub, then the 1/2 after Drum.
-Slash is not STAB. Charizard=Fire/Flying, Slash=Normal.

I'm sure these tips will help.

I meant air slash, but it doesn't matter anyway as it is a special move (whoops!). Cheers for the answers, helped me out no end. I think I will go with fire fang and just hope I can get the fire punch tm from someone.

It will not activate. Sub-drumming only looses 1/4 of HP
With an uneven HP value Salac will activate after a Substitute and Belly Drum due to rounding.

use Fire Punch + Dragon Claw. it covers everything except for Heatran who will probably be out of the battle before it can ohko charizard with a stone edge.

the big problem with fire fang is that (1) less power, and (2) it may actually miss!! i can't believe how many times ice fang misses on my hippowdon... it's insane.

Any ideas how I could get fire punch. I believe it only comes in a TM from gold/silver, so I don't know how I will get it. I can't think of a way to breed belly drum and fire punch onto it at the same time.

well that's the thing, it can only get both from Emerald. first you gotta breed it for Belly Drum, and then you must get Fire Punch as a tutor move. you can either try to get a legit one by trading with someone, or if you have a friend that has action replay, just get them to teach your charizard both moves. it's all the same.

I'm pretty sure the sub loses 1/4, then the belly drum loses 1/2. Thus getting the health down to 1/4 and it should be activated.

I beleive Substitute protects Charizard from taking excess damage.

Bellydrum's attack damage goes to the substitute so it will be taking no more than 1/4
