3rd Gen Best 3 member team (pkmn ruby)

    Ok i know a lot of people will just say "theres too many options!" but i want opinions so anyone who sees this can you just say a 3 member team for the whole game that you dont have to wait until the end of the game to get? (no trading involved for the final team.)
     
    That is easy.

    Swampert
    Swellow
    Gardevoir

    All three are available early on. All three can achieve their best moveset before the sixth gym. All three cover weaknesses very well. All three are powerful enough that you don't need to raise their levels very high to complete the game. This is always the team I use to quickly run through the game.
     
    Thank you very much for not saying theres too many options and yes that sounds do-able... hmm what about a replacement for swellow though? ive had it in so many ruby/emerald games and its just getting old now lol i like almost even know every move it learns at every level ive had it so many times..
     
    Well, you did ask for the best 3-member team that you can get early on. You could go with Salamence, but you cannot get Bagon until much later. Without trading, your next best option would be Skarmory. Not as strong as fast as Swellow, but still effective and can take quite a pounding too.
     
    what about another non flying and i could just have a flying hm slave

    Hmmmm. Not exactly a diverse bunch, but it is your team. How exactly do you propose to handle Water-types, as your entire team is weak to them?

    BTW - DO NOT place any HM moves (not called Surf) on your team of three. Since you asked for three I assumed you would be using HM slaves. Remember that Tropius and Wailmer can both learn 4 of the moves each. Zigzagoon and Nincada will do early on.
     
    oh yeah i just realized water... i was planning on teach aggron thunderbolt but yeah i guess i can swap one guy out.. hmm which one

    edit: btw i didnt wanna start another thread just to ask this and im not asking if its possible but if theres any types that i couldnt beat at all that both pokemons effects would be weak to, squirtle and pikachu just those two

    Aggron with T-Bolt?? Its Base SAtk is only 60, its Base SDef is only 60, and its Spd is only 50. What that means is your Aggron will first have to eat a Water attack since most Water-types you will face will be faster, and then have to deal with the fact that an Aggron T-Bolt will not be a OHKO either. Just a bad choice. Gardevoir, on the other hand, can not only learn T-Bold, but Calm Mind as well. Throw in the fact that it has a Base SATk of 125 and it can handle all Water-types, not to mention Flying-types.

    Swampert also outclasses Blaziken in about every single way. MUCH better typing, with just one weakness that Ice Beam can generally handle. Its Base stats are better spread, allowing it to take hits while Blaziken is quite fragile. It can learn its moveset long before you reach the "elite" 4, while Blaziken isn't even able to learn its best moveset in RS. A STAB Surf and STAB Earthquake are a deadly combination, and much more effective than STAB Flamethrower and STAB Sky Uppercut.

    To be honest, Swampert and Gardevoir are good enough to roll through the game by themselves. You don't even need a third. Hell, Swampert can do it by itself without having to level up as high as other Pokemon do for a solo run.

    Still, you asked for the BEST 3-man team, so I refer you back to my original post.

    As for your edit, if I am understanding you correctly, you are wanting to know if a team of Blastoise and Raichu have any weaknesses? The short answer is no. I would suggest giving Raichu Substitute and Focus Punch though, and make sure Blastoise has both Ice Beam and Earthquake. That will ensure that you can do at least normal damage to every type that you will see in the game. Substitute comes in very handy since you are pretty weak on the special side. Well, Raichu is weak defensively in general, but you get the idea.

    Unless you have a Light Ball, that is not a good idea. While Blastoise can cover Pikachu's weakness easily enough, it is so frail defensively that it will not last very long against ANY type, unless your plan is to level it up higher than you really need to. It also has a weak Base SAtk of 55 while Raichu has a decent Base SAtk of 90. Not to mention the fact that its Base HP is a pathetic 35, which would make a Sub practically useless. It is your team, but there is really no need to make things difficult unnecessarily. Well, unless you are going for that in which case, more power to you. On that note I wouldn't evolve Squirtle either.
     
    Pikachu is weak - Go for Raichu.

    Raichu is so much stronger than a Pikachu, but it's still not a good choice. I would go with a Gardevoir (like Shane said) or a Jolteon with Thunderbolt.
     
    Too late lol i already evolved squirtle to blastoise in rock tunnel. Oh and btw im planning on pikachu being level 100 for the elite four btw, and i wanna make the challenge this time harder so thats why im not evolving him and why im only using 2 pokemon of different types and one not evolved
     
    Raising your Pikachu to lvl 100 kind of takes the challenge out of it. At that level you don't even need Blastoise because a lvl 100 Pikachu will clean up all by itself.
     
    umm..... Blastoise can learn Ice Beam that can beat up dragon types easily, You can use a Kadabra or Alakazam to beat Ghost types like in the Elite Four, but be careful of Gengar's Shadow Ball....., and any very-strong electric Pokémon, Pikachu is a good choice but it has low defense, you should take Raichu in my opinion....hope this helps.. :)
     
    Here is what I would reccomend:

    Gardevoir
    - Psychic
    - Thunderbolt
    - Calm Mind
    - Shadow Ball

    Gardevoir has a high base special attack, this allows her to sweep most Pokémon with moderate ease. She can also use Calm Mind to make her special defense unstoppable. Gardevoir is always a good choice to deal with common threats in and outside of competitive battling.

    Swampert
    - Earthquake
    - Waterfall
    - Ice Punch / Ice Beam
    - Return / Take Down

    Swampert should always be considered a Physical sweeper. With an ice-type attack it can deal with grass Pokémon which are its main weakness. A normal type move that is physical can also come in handy and then you get a physical water type move and EQ for some extra sweep.

    Absol
    - Thunderbolt
    - Shadowball
    - Flamethrower
    - Icebeam

    I would reccomend this over your Pikachu because it can learn Thunderbolt and a lot of other decent moves. Most common Gardevoir can't harm it unless they have Thunderbolt themselves.

    If you plan on using Pikachu then I would reccomend teaching it: Thunderbolt, Dig, Return and Brick Break. I've had the most success with this moveset on Pikachu, I would also reccomend you give it a Light Orb to boost Thunderbolt if you don't plan on evolving it.

    Alakazam could easily replace Gardevoir but that is your choice and yours alone.
     
    Please note that this is the ADVANCED GEN forum and slowpokez is playing RUBY. Those movesets will not be helpful. Special Absol is never a good idea. Too many better options.
