Best "HM slave" pokemon

Nidorans are also great for being HM slaves.

But not ALL field maneuvers are useless. I actually find Flash really useful as a defensive maneuver. Surf is the the highest powered water TM/HM, and both Dig and Fly, despite being two-turn moves, are powerful for their type.

BTW, I consider Flash and Dig HM moves, even if you use TMs to get them.

Bibarel or Zigzagoon

However, in Gen II I used....

LUGIA!
(Surf, Fly, Whirpool, Waterfall)

No joke...

I personally love using Ambipom. Even though it can only learn 3 HM moves (Cut, Rock Smash, and Strength), it has Pickup, and still manages to be a strong Pokémon (with base 100 Attack and 115 Speed).

The other Pickup Pokémon can't match this, since most of them are unevolved forms~ (except Linoone, but it still can't match up xD). And Ambipom saved me several times during playthroughs, so I've come to love it to death.

As for the rest of the HM moves, I just use Pokémon I love to handle the two important moves (Fly on Charizard, Surf on Latias), and if I need more than that, there's always Mew...Just one of the many random ones I get from the GTS.

Oh, and Empoleon can learn all HMs but Fly. Gonna use that when I restart Platinum~

Mine, by region/game: Smeargle forever

Hoenn: Fly, Dive, Cut, Flash (ONOZ! A flying dogfish!)
Kanto (FRLG): Waterfall, Fly, Cut, Strength
Johto (HGSS): Whirlpool, Fly, Flash, Rock Climb
Sinnoh: Fly, Rock Climb, Defog, Surf & Cut, Strength, Spacial Rend, Sweet Scent (a fart joke...)

It hurts me when people use Mew as an HM Slave. It's like using a Wii as a bookend on your shelf. :(

Lol, well, I personally don't like the term "HM Slave". When it comes to HM moves, especially ones that involve riding (Fly, Surf), I don't want to use just anyone. Surfing on my adorable Latias is much more pleasing a thought than choosing to hop on the beaver known as Bibarel. -_- And Mew isn't lacking in cuteness either. I treat my HM Pokémon with the same care I would any other~ They just happen to have a poor moveset. x_x

Anyway, the plus to using legendaries for HMs is that any moves you remove for HM moves can be recovered easily with Heart Scales or TMs/Tutors, seeing as the concept of Egg Moves doesn't exist. Though there's always those special event legendaries with special moves they could never learn otherwise...
