Black History Month

My, my, my... Why hasn't this topic been made already? Not that I'm disappointed, just surprised.

Anywho, whats your opinions on it? What are you doing at school for it? At work perhaps? Maybe even at home, Share and discuss at this very brilliant topic.

Personally, I disagree with the concept. The abolition of slavery, the civil rights movements, apartheid... all these things aren't black history, they are just a part of history. In my opinion, all Black History Month does is support the idea that Blacks are different from everyone else, that we aren't the same. Not only is this wrong and slightly racist, it goes directly against the kind of liberations that Black History Month is centered around.

America is a multi-racial nation. In fact, it is difficult to find out who is American in the USA . This multi-racial fabric of the nation constitutes the American society. This is the basic element that makes the American society progressive. But still the society needs to be modified. Many a social worker, statesman, poet and scholar has contributed to this society. Thus the vision of 'American dream' has developed and flourished. Affluence came with this vision. Now people all over the world dream the 'American dream'. Black people of the country have gone through the throes of racial discrimination and, however, in many remote parts of the country, racial or class discrimination is still there in the mindset of some sections of people. But the society in general has a strong resolve to eradicate this black aspect of their society. The US naturalisation policy has contributed to this development. As people from different communities across the world are integrated into this society every year, the society becomes more enriched and diverse every day. The US government must keep up the spirit of equality for all people of America, irrespective of their origin.

i'm all for acknowledging our past with slavery, but african american slavery seems to have overshadowed other ethnic groups' endurances through slavery. and i get that, cultural relevance n all. still, agreeing with the OP- i don't think upholding a single race does anything positive for the level of equality the US is trying to establish.
