Should i care about a pokemon with outstanding potential? What if im breeding for hours and i get a pokemon with above average potential with one or two of the IV's i need and he finishes by saying "stats like these cant be beat." Should i keep that pokemon or incinerate it?

And if i do need this outstanding pokemon, how would i go about breeding it? Would i need to capture a three or more IV ditto and breed with that or is there some other method? And please dont refer me to Serebi or some other site. Ive looked through those and had trouble understanding and not finding the things i needed to know about.

Outstanding potential is the best among his remarks. Keep that.

    What I do is
1st. Female pokemon you want + 3-6IV ditto holding a destiny knot. I do at least 6-8 hatches.
2nd. Best 2 from the first part is bred. One pokemon still holding the destiny knot.
3rd if I still dont get the stats I want, rinse and repeat.

If one of the parents holds an everstone, the nature will be passed down.
Onle females, unless bred with ditto, can pass down a hidden ability.

i stayed a few hours trying to catch a ditto with three iv's, and i finally got it after breeding for hours. tried to breed my smeargle with it and they were both incompatible. any ideas?

But if you incinerate it, it'll lose the berry it was holding D:

Anywho, getting serious, it's all mostly a matter of luck and there's no way to guarantee you'll get the stats and potential you want (except to get your hands on a 6IV Ditto). The Destiny Knot also helps a lot, like qubit said, as it causes the parents to pass on 5 of their stats instead of the usual 3. There's also the various Power items (Power Bracer, Power Weight, etc.) which cause a specific stat to automatically be passed down from the parent who's holding it to the child. Whether or not that's something you'd want to do is a matter of what you're going for with your breeding (i.e. if you're going for a Pokémon with specific stats), but beyond that everything else is randomized so it's just trial and error until you get what you want.

Also, moving this to Pokémon Gaming Central, since it's a general question about breeding and not specific to ORAS :)

There's a giveaway in Quick Trades for a 6IV shiny Japanese Ditto. When two Pokemon from different regions breed their offspring are more likely to be shiny.

Do this! It makes it much easier. It used to take forever to get perfect IVs. Plus I've hatched 2 shinies since getting the japanese one, so this is the aweseome way to go.

Ditto can't breed with other Dittos or other genderless Pokemon and the majority of legendaries.
