Bulbagarden Downtime

*sighs* We must have gone up while the bastard was asleep or something. He's struck again. At least this time we have full and detailed logs of the whole event. Should be able to figure out a way to filter out the attack now.

I've been noticing problems too. I thought it was because of either Firefox, my firewall or ISP was intercepting communication.

WHAT? Another attack?!! This guy must have a big grudge to settle against BMG, then.

Unless it's someone from the old CML crew, which doesn't seem likely (They don't seem to be bragging about it on the forums they currently inhabit), the only possible motivation for a grudge against us is the old SPP/BMG thing. And frankly, I don't think something on this scale is in Joe's ability to do.

We seem to have weathered the storm, by making the entire domain 403 everything for a short time, but we can't be totally sure yet. Things are back up, but the server load does seem unusually high.

I have to wonder who else is sharing this server with us. Perhaps it's not our traffic which did everything in, but rather some new script or feature another site on the server is running, sucking up system resources.

Mind the double postage, plzkthnx. ^^ </OT>

I really wish that Ph34r guy would give up already. x_x Do you have his real IP? All I can really suggest is trying to find it and then reporting him.

... And those DDoS attacks would explain the uber-laggage and downtimes of PC over the last few days.

As far as i know; no new sites / scripts running on this server...

...and when bmg goes off / 403, the server loads drop to 0.80 range..

I suspect they are still out there and ddos'n away as to day has been h-e-double-l .. hopefully bmg got good logs now and can start working on ways to block them..

I really hate now being at BMG. That place was the first ever Pokemon Forum I ever signed up at. So, that site has a lot of sentimental value to me.
Yeah, I agree with you, Mario!

Bulbagarden was the first Pokemon forums I registered at too!

And I hope they fix that problem soon!!!! ^_^

The problem with the server logs is that this server seems to only log a request once it's actually been filled. Which means that if the server is flooded with requests such that it can't fill any of them, as you'd see in a DDoS attack....no log of the event.

*sigh*

Ouch. x_x; Uh... other than moving to a server that can withstand the DDoS attacks in the meantime, I don't know what else to say. ^^;

PC, PPN, Bulbagarden, and all sub hostees of such (UPN and Dogasu's Backpack for BMG. I don't know what anyone else on here sub-hosts) are on this one giga-server. Quad Xeon CPU's, etc, etc. Really, an "all your eggs in one basket" approach. Events like this just show how unwise that approach is.

yea, the one thing wrong with this scenerio is that if one site gets DDos, they all get DDos... as in... wynaut take out 1 site when you can take out fifty.

this server is designed to and should handle 4 or 5 large, high traffic sites, as well as 200 or so average traffic sites... and up until this attack did so quite well. So...

well our dc put us on a cisco switch running Cisco Guard to see if we can't get this worked out and blocked.. but due to the DDoS crashing the services, we'll have to keep bmg isolated / suspended till after the weekend.

yes i know it sux.. i tried to open it back up this morning (sat) but within 10 mins the server loads jumped from 2-ish to 80-ish.. not good..

just know, we are indeed working to solve this problem and bmg will be back and everything will be running normally very soon.

I hate how people have no lives so they go and attack pokemon sites, it just shows how pathetic people can be.

Hope to see BMG up soon :)

And it seems to be a 1-Hit-KO, that has fatally damaged Erika. It is really horrible that the guy attacks innocent Pokemon Forums. Archaic, I think this might be a guy who has a grudge against you. Maybe from old days or something. Otherwise why did he attack BGF the second time. Most hackers hack only for the heck of it and fun too.

I hope that BGF comes up very soon. I also hope that some action can be taken against this hacker.

Man, that really stinks. This idiot really needs a life.
I agree that you should report him to his ISP if you ever find out who's doing it.

Noooo Bulbagarden!!!!
I also belong to Bulbagarden and that's one of the best forums out there. I take it the oekaki is down too. And if there's no oekaki, there's no shi painter and no new archives to see. T_T I looove Bulbagarden. Maybe I shouldn't have been taking it for granted.
Hope Erika pulls though
