Like my ugly title? Most people consider gen III contests to be fun and/or far superior to Gen IV's super contests, Pokethlon, and Gen V's musicals. Did you enjoy gen III contests? Did you make PokeBlocks for it or just go straight in? Did you raise Pokemon with movesets specifically for contest purposes? Answer these questions and feel free to discuss any noteworthy moments you had in contests! Generation III only, please. No super contests!! We don't like those. ;)

OH MY LURD YES. They were simplistic, yet difficult, and always had some tricks up their sleeves to either DESTROY your scores, and COMPLETELY improve them. I maxed out my contest stats depending on what I was going to enter. Cool contests, Adamant Pokemon, maxed out coolness, nothing but cool moves or moves that go well with cool combos. Beauty and cute contests were my favorite.
My cousins' half brother and I are around the same age, and we decided to enter a Contest together. He used a Jirachi, I my Gardevoir. We entered the Smart contest. He kept using a move that would draw all eyes on him, which prevented anyone getting additional point from anything other than the judge, and you know them crowd points are boss. So, it was the last turn, he was beating me bad, and he said "lol ok ok, we both use Psychic. I won't use my attack anymore." I knew he was going to use that other attack. It comboed beautifully with what he used the turn before. So HE DID. But, I used an attack that does mega hurt to the Pokemon that has the crowd's attention, he got negative points, and I beat him by four hearts.
His reaction? "I THOUGHT YOU SAID WE WERE USING PSYCHIC!?"

It was my greatest victory. Ever.

I loved the contest feature. I won one ribbon with my Gardevoir, won two with my *shiny* Azumarill, failed on obtaining the third. I wish I could do a multiplayer contest but I don't know anybody else that has R/S/E anymore...

Oh I loved Gen 3's contests. Nothing in later generations compares.

I loved how when you showed your Pokemon, people had those little hearts
pop up! I never got many hearts XD

Actually, I find them difficult but the important thing is I had fun. I never won ribbons actually because I never focused on the contests tbh :x. But those little hearts were cute and the fact that I'm the only one with a fully evolved Pokémon is also cute <33 Because it's R/S/E and what's not to love?

I found the Contests to be great fun in the 3rd gen and kind of a let down in the later gens. I've always thought that the Cool and Beauty Contests were quite easy because if you raise a Swellow you can just alternate between Quick Attack and Aerial Ace once you learn it for the cool one, whereas in the Beauty Contest I could just spam appealing fire moves and still have an okay chance of winning the Master Contest. The other contests actually took some planning ahead and luck to beat especially those damn Smart Contests. I've only ever managed to beat them all on the same file once, but I definitely enjoyed every minute of it :P

Contests were one thing that R/S/E actually got right (though I still wish you donned a formal outfit before heading in there which is the only area where D/P/Pt contests have them beat). There was a lot more strategy involved since you could snatch hearts (and even turns) away from opponents and they could do the same to you. You had to me much more cunning and ruthless in these contests, which gave them a competitive edge that later incarnations simply lacked. I remember quite a few LOL moments when the CPU opponents would inexplicably use Explosion in the third or fourth round instead of waiting till the fifth and taking themselves out of competition early.

And IIRC, I did have all five Master ribbons earned on Sapphire (may that cartridge RIP) at one time.

I love the Generation III Pokémon Contests! They had more to do with strategy and less to do with pressing buttons to a beat. Even in challenge games I still participate in them because they're so fun. And unlike the alternatives in later generations, Pokéblock is actually fun to make, so I would always give my Pokémon it before I entered. In my Emerald I got all my Seedot to have their paintings done.

The contest feature was so much fun! I actually had pokemon trained just for them. :3

Ooops, I was in a rush when I made this and didn't answer my own questions! But anyway, I enjoyed contests very much! I did raise a few Pokemon specifically for different categories also. I had a Blaziken for beauty (won my first master rank with it!), Wynaut for cute, Skarmory for cool, Regirock for tough, and Kirlia for smart. They had a "roadie" which was a Tropius so we could fly to the different contest locations haha. I can't remember any key moments in contests, but I do know I memorized a lot of people and would think "oh crap so and so is in this competition too..." lol

That happened to me as a kid before I understood the Pokeblock concept in contests. So I thought they thought my Pokemon was ugly or looked stupid or something lol.

These contests sound incredibly fun. Makes me wish Leafgreen had em.

Loved these contests, and yes they were far superior than to Gen IV's. I think the combos were one of the best features, like how a Rain Dance + Hydro Pump combo could really rack up some points. The moves were annoying as hell though. I think a few contestants were in just to screw you over. Like I remember the kind of contestant that would use scramble, mess up the order, make other Pokemon struggle, etc. Especially something like a Golem with Earthquake.

I loved the Destiny Bond/Explosion move with using it as a last resort move, or an always last move thing. It worked even better when I got the crowd going at the same time, but that took a lot of luck. I think it happened maybe once or twice, but the points seriously stacked up and that set my win in stone. It was funny to see a few use it in the third turn and they just plummeted later on.

PokeBlocks were fun to make, though extremely hard at first. I couldn't understand how to mix them so I just spammed the A button and made crap. Afterwards, I devised a strategy where I could get two taps in when it first started, like get a perfect circle then a normal circle in the same turn. The PokeBlock Master guy was awesome though. Whenever he came, I made sure I had a lot of berries and made Gold PokeBlocks until I dropped.

I did win all the Master Ranks and I got my Pokemon painted in the museum.

I loved the contests in Gen III. It is simple, quaint, and really challenging. It is like the Pokemon League. Once you get to the Master Rank, experience is needed. Even if you maxed out the level of your Pokemon, got the scarves, you need talent and experience to defeat it... I do love those contests and I hope that it would come back... =3
