Alright, a little explanation is needed first :cross-eye
I haven?t played Pokemon since the good old days of Red and Blue, back before the TV show, the cards and most of the hype. Yes, it has been awhile. So when some good friends of mine told me about the remakes, it kind of sparked our interests again :dead:
After now having beaten the game (Elite Four + Islands 1-7) and finding some new really interesting features, here I am wanting some tips to get the upper hand against my friends. I have done my research and even played with the breeding system some? so let me know what you think :classic:
Disclaimer: We don?t intend to use anything but FR and LG; maybe Coliseum at some point, but not anytime soon.
Jolteon (Na?ve) @ Leftovers
EV: Sp.Attack-252; Speed-252
- Thunderbolt (TM)
- Shadow Ball (TM)
- Toxic (TM)
- Substitute (Move Tutor)
Thoughts: Jolteon is fast, so having her as my lead makes sense when I know I can get her substitution out as the first move. From there, I throw out a Toxic (I really think poison could be more effective then stun, but let me know what you think) while protected by the substitute. At the end of the turn I get some HP back from the cost of the substitute, and am now ready to Thunderbolt or Shadow Ball if they have out a nasty psychic or ghost.
Blastoise (Timid) @ ???
EV: HP-252; Sp.Def-129; Def-129
- Surf (HM)
- Ice Beam (TM)
- Hydro Cannon (Starter Pokemon Move Tutor)
- Dig (TM)
Thoughts: Yes? two water attacks. Since this was my starter, I am reluctant to give up the Hydro Cannon even though Surf is more reliable and can be used more often. If you tell me to breed a new one however? I will. As for Ice Beam, that is to counter Grass and the Dig is to counter Electric.
Cloyster (Bold) @ Leftovers
EV: HP-252; Sp.Def-129; Def-129
- Ice Beam (TM)
- Rapid Spin (Egg Move from ???)
- Hail (TM)
- Spikes (Natural)
Thoughts: This one is suppose to make the opponent feel like they are darned if they do, darned if they don?t. Throw down spikes, cause hail, and then sit back with Ice Beam with the option of spinning away anything unpleasant. Good against pesty dragons.
Arcanine (Lonely) @ White Herb
EV: Attack-252; Speed-252
- Flamethrower (breed from Growlithe???)
- Extremespeed (Natural)
- Overheat (TM)
- ???
Thoughts: Alright, this one I need some help on. I would like to breed Flamethrower from Growlithe since you have to sacrifice it for Extremespeed? but can I do that? My goal with this one is to take advantage of the power house attack stat with an automatic first hit move. The White Herb negates stat reduction of Overheat, and an attack booster move would work well in the question mark spot, but I couldn?t figure out how to get one in there. Any thoughts?
Hitmonlee (Gentle) @ Quick Claw
EV: Attack-252; Speed-252
- Brick Break (Natural)
- Strength (HM)
- Endure (Natural)
- Reversal (Natural)
Thoughts: With brick break and strength, Hitmonlee can do well against almost anything. If he gets into a situation he can?t handle though, he uses endure to last through the attack and does a reversal to hit back hard. Straight forward?
Mewtwo (Docile) @ Twisted Spoon
EV: Speed-252; Sp.Attack-129; HP-129
- Psychic (Natural)
- Flamethrower (TM)
- Recover (Natural)
- Calm Mind (TM)
Thoughts: No big changes from the Mewtwo straight out of the box, but Flamethrower allows for a strong attack against bug and steel unlike the normal swift. Calm mind is there just to make Psychic do even more damage to everything else?
Alright? so there is how I am planning my team to look. Luckily I found this forum before starting anything irreversible, so be kind and let me know if you see any pitfalls in my thinking. Things I can?t change include the nature of Mewtwo and Hitmonlee, but the others I could breed from scratch.. although I would hate to do that to my baby Blastoise :\
Remember to keep in mind that we are only using FR and LG. Thanks! :D
