I've got a big question; with the 3rd and 4th generation games, is it even possible to capture all 493 Pokemon? I say this because you can't transfer Pokemon from G/S/C over to R/S and/or D/P. This means there are lots of Pokemon currently not obtainable, right?
Is it still possible for us to catch 'em all?

Well its possible what yoru talking about
but its impossible to catch 2? pokemon
Shayman and Arcureshjflkdsf idk how to spell them XD

But in Fire,Leaf you can catch most of the Silver,Gold pokemon
And in D/P you can get all the pokemon except the legendaries and the starters

Im pretty close to having them all
Missing the dogs, moltress, ho-oh, rayquaza, palkia, darkrai and the unobtainable pokemon
And a few breedable pokemon i think 17 not inlcuding their evolves

You can catch up to 491 out of the 493 existing Pokemon. The unobtainable Pokemon are Arceus and Shaymin. You can only obtain Shaymin and Arceus using a cheat device. I have heard stories that Shaymin will be obtainable at the upcoming 11th movie in Japan. Arceus obtainability information has yet to be annouced. To answer your question, yes - if you have a cheat device or accept hacked Pokemon through trades, no - if you do not have a cheat device or don't accept hacked Pokemon through trades. But if you don't have a cheat device or accept hacked Pokemon, at least you still have your dignity. XD
