    Yes. It's called your ignore list.

    Once you enter someone's name onto there, whenever that person posts, you won't see it, unless you click "View Post" where the post number is.

    EDIT: Kind of beaten. XD;
     
    Certain people? The closest to that is to make them contacts and staff only which you can do from User CP --> Edit Options. Adding them to your ignore list might work as well.
    You can also block everyone entirely by disabling those features. Also done from User CP --> Edit Options.
