I found out the hardway that you sertainly can, with ease if you know how.

A very overlooked pokemon, that once it was released in the 5th battle i fort in the Crystal Palace Pokemon Leauge UK, my eyes widened and i felt like laughing at... wiped all 3 of my pokemon with 3-4 hits. Including my Lv100 Mewtwo.

I didnt even see his other team.. and he left with over half hp.

And what really got me, was it was only a Raticate... a flippin' Raticate. How on earth did a Radiacte beat all my team, including Mewtwo.

Well i spent a long time reserching this, and basically Mewtwo vs Mewtwo is an awlkward battle. Everyone knows that. Its just psychic vs psychic, recover, recover.... and it goes round again. And eventually one trainer looses concentration and you forget to recover, and bam... or... you run out of pp.

But you'd still think you need a legendary to beat Mewtwo, or so i did. But all this guy needed was a Raticate.

It was hand trained to start with, so its stats where already high. But not enough to beat a Mewtwo. So, he had cheated. Once your pokemon are at Lv 100, most of you will probably know you can continue to raise their stats by trading... But trading a poke back and forth with sertain types somehow gives them trates of that type. By trading the Raticate back and forth with bug type pokemon and ghosts... then teachign bug and ghost moves to it. He had trashed my Mewtwo using my weaknesses.

So why use Raticate? Well for starters its strong against ghosts... and secondly its weak against fighting types. And how many people use fighting types? Very few... Raticate is also an easy pokemon to work with.

Now that was a strategy he deserved to win with. Cheating or not. And he did.. and he was in the UK's official nintendo magazine. So i went to find out how he did it.. and now i have. Yay...

So dont underestimate pokemon that look like your pet hamster... Thats the moral of this story. Oh, and.. thankyou for reading. Hoep you find this information of interest.

    Things wrong with your theory

Not really. if one side has amnesia and the other doesn't, you're gone. Amnesia is standard on Mewtwos too.

313-260-218-292-198. Max stats for a Raticate. Only speed can be called "high"

    Duh :)

No, but boxing trick can raise it up to the previous said max. it cannot be anything higher than the given max, no matter how much training you do.

I hardly think a 260 attack can thrash a 406 special given Mewtwo is faster and has over twice the special to start with, and gets STAB on psychic. as well, Raticate can NOT learn bug/ghost moves in RBY, and Ghosts are NOT very effective against Psychics in RBY.

So why use Raticate? Well for starters its strong against ghosts...
Not the last time I checked. Thunderbolt gengar = gg raticate.

and secondly its weak against fighting types. And how many people use fighting types? Very few... Raticate is also an easy pokemon to work with.
Raticate can be taken down by almost anything. Snorlax, Persian, Venusaur, common metagame pokes.

It was obvious he cheated. At lv 100 for both pokemon, it's almost impossible for a Mewtwo to lose to a Raticate, unless your Psychic missed repeatedly from the 0.4% miss chance and his super fang + hyper beam killed you. But aside from something as ridiculous as that, I refuse to believe he didn't cheat on stats.

His raticate knew hypnosis, hyper beam, hyper fang and dream eater and it was a red version game cartrage... i dont know how. Dont ask me. Its stats where off the flippin roof, its hp was way off 500....

My physhic did miss once or twice..

?thus he cheated and we have the explanation. This is Raticate not Blissey. =/ I can teach Caterpie Body Slam and give it 999 in all stats so I can say "So don?t underestimate pokemon that look like your pet worm". No real strategy involved. You could even use a weak fighting Pok?mon like Machop or something with those stats and take out a Mewtwo without a legend.

Of course you can win without Mewtwo! I always beat the game without him and the Legendaries because I don't like to use them. A decent team with strong, reliable Pokemon, like Venusaur, Arcanine, Nidoking, Raichu, Dewgong, and Pidgeot can win the game easily. Mewtwo is just a PokePowerhouse; that is why it is relied on because it is extremely powerful. But, with the correct training and persistence, normal Pokemon can be just as strong, too, if not stronger.

With ya all the way. I prefer not to use legendaries... There's so much more creativity and utter potential with other Pokemon. I am personally fond of Charizard, Raichu, Clefable, Sandslash, Hypno, and Tentacruel.
