[PokeCommunity.com] Case Closed! (NCIS UU RMT)

    The Mystery to Solve

With the help of Aurafire, I've delved deep into UU competitive play over the past few weeks. After the retirement of a very successful offensive team, I took time to revise on some of the problems it had and create a new offensive team that could handle the problems my old offensive team could not.

Current Loose Ends of the Case

This team currently does not have a resist to Water-type attacks, which could be a huge problem when I come across Rain Dance teams.

Ambipom @ Expert Belt/Life Orb (Ziva David)
    Jolly Nature- Technician
    252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HP

    *bulbagarden.net image removed* Fake Out
    *bulbagarden.net image removed* Taunt
    *bulbagarden.net image removed* Shadow Claw
    *bulbagarden.net image removed* Low Kick

This Ambipom anti-lead has been a great choice for the team, and has helped create several oppurtunities for me to pull off a sweep. Ambipom can mash through the Regis and some other bulk folk with Low Kick, which is one of the main reasons why this set works so well. Taunt provides Ambipom with the means to dispatch of Dual Screens, Spikers, Toxic Spikers, and anything that wants to come in and set up or inflict status on my team. Fake Out is obligatory, as most leads hate the flinch from Fake Out, and it does a good job at breaking the sash of all non-Ghost Pokemon. Shadow Claw was chosen as a harder option to hit Ghosts with, and has proved invaluable against several opponents. Currently, I have chosen Expert Belt to gain power while bluffing the standard Silk Scarf, and it has come in handy. I have considered Life Orb, however, and am willing to test it if necessary. The main drawback to Ambipom is the absence of Return, one of Ambipom's best attacks. However, I felt it better to provide better coverage than to have an extremely powerful attack when I already have Fake Out.

Ziva David is a former Mossad liaison officer that came to NCIS at the start of season 3. Since then, she has proved invaluable to the NCIS team, taking care of several criminals and syndicates that have threatened the safety of the U.S. and Israel. Ziva is the best gun wielder on the team, and has proven it on occasion, setting up perfect captures for the NCIS team.

    Venusaur @ Leftovers (Leon Vance)
    Impish Nature- Overgrow
    252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 SpD

    *bulbagarden.net image removed* Sleep Powder
    *bulbagarden.net image removed* Synthesis
    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Seed Bomb/*bulbagarden.net image removed*Power Whip
    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Return

Venusaur was placed on the team to help combat against Toxic, which screws over this team, and provide a solid resist to stuff like Kabutops and Azumarill that were killing my team with Aqua Jet and Waterfall beforehand. Venusaur can also cripple several Pokemon that think they can switch and wall/ set up on Venusaur with Sleep Powder. Synthesis provides a good form of recovery since there are few Sandstorm teams in UU. Venusuar's attacking combination of (currently) Seed Bomb and Return hits most of UU for neutral, and what it doesn't hit is dealt with somewhere else on the team. I chose physical attacking options for Venusaur to provide a balance of physical and special attacking moves for the overall team.

The current director of NCIS, Leon Vance has a very shady background. However, he has brought several terrorist groups and serial killers down and has a great political mind. Not much is known about Leon Vance otherwise, except that he had an archrival named Lee Wuan Kai that consistently tormented him for nearly 20 years before Kai came to Leon and ask her to kill him. In the end, Leon's wife took Kai out before Leon could pull the trigger.

Rotom @ Choice Scarf (Timothy McGee)
    Timid Nature- Levitate
    252 Spe/ 252 Spa/ 4 HP

    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Shadow Ball
    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Thunderbolt
    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Hidden Power Ice
    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Trick

Rotom was originally put on the team as a primary fighting resist, but the addition of Muk took care of that angle. Rotom now serves as a cripple to most setup sweepers and walls thanks to Trick. Rotom can also revenge kill quite well with its STAB Shadow Ball and Thunderbolt, tearing through sweepers like Gallade, Feraligatr, and Mismagius (the non-Scarf versions, that is). Rotom also has Hidden Power Ice to deal with threats like DD Altaria and Rock Polish Torterra.

Timothy McGee is the most ridiculed member of the NCIS team, being teased a lot, mainly by Tony Dinozzo. McGee is a genius with computers, and can crack through some of the toughest firewalls. He has also hacked into several government agency networks when needed. As a hobby, McGee likes to write, having written the successful Deep Six series under the pen name Thom E. Gemcity. However, he had to trick the rest of the team into not knowing that he had written the series, as most of the characters were based off of the NCIS team members.

    Rhyperior @ Leftovers (Ducky Mallard)
    Impish Nature- Solid Rock
    244 HP/ 180 Def/ 84 SpD

    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Earthquake
    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Stealth Rock
    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Rock Blast
    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Megahorn

While Rhyperior is best known for its offensive capabilities, it can also tank quite well, especially if the opponent puts up a Sandstorm. In this case, Rhyperior can take several physical hits extremely well, only being unable to take a few powerful attacks (such as Kabutops Waterfall in the Rain, offensive Tangrowth Power Whip, etc.). Rhyperior is also crucial to this team because it sets up Stealth Rock for the team. Earthquake and Rock Blast form the QuakeEdge combo that provides nearly unresisted coverage in UU. Rock Blast is also good for beating substitute sweepers, such as Moltres and Alakazam. Megahorn is great for Claydol (2HKO), Sceptile (can OHKO), and many other Psychic and Grass types that like to switch in to Rhyperior.

Best known as Ducky by the NCIS team, Doctor Donald Mallard is the Chief Medical Examiner of NCIS. He often talks to the bodies in autopsy and can spot several tiny little details that may prove to lead to the cause of death or solve a murder case. Ducky can also create impressive psychological profiles of any criminal that he can get possessions from. He has provided comfort to several members of the NCIS team in their times of need.

Blaziken @ Life Orb (Tony Dinozzo)
    Mild Nature- Blaze
    252 Spe/ 252 Spa/ 4 Atk

    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Fire Blast
    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Hidden Power Electric
    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Vacuum Wave
    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Superpower

Mixed Priority Blaziken has proven to be one of the best sweepers I have come across in the UU environment, and I usually don't build a team without it. This is because Blaziken can do so much with its offensive capabilities. Some of the bulkiest special walls of UU (Chansey, Clefable, Umbreon) are shot down in one hit by Superpower. Steels hate the power behind Blaziken's incredible Fire Blast (as does a lot of other Pokemon, since some water types can take over 50% from it despite resisting it). Hidden Power Electric tears into bulky waters that think they can stop Blaziken. However, none of these moves compare to the greatness that Vacuum Wave brings to the table. It can easily pick off some of the frail sweepers of UU, including Houndoom, Ambipom, and Kabutops (needs some prior damage however in this case). Blaziken really brings a lot to the table for this team, and his spot is irreplaceable. The only draw back I have found is that since I switched the EVs to maximize Vacuum Wave's power, Blaziken can no longer OHKO Lanturn with Superpower...

Anthony Dinozzo has been a member of NCIS since Season 1. He is the senior field agent of the team, and has led the team on several occasions when Gibbs has been out of contact. His leadership success got him a position as an undercover agent to track down one of the world's most notorious arms dealers. Dinozzo has been an irreplaceable member of the NCIS team, and Gibbs has gone to great lengths to ensure that he remains by his side.

Honchkrow @ Life Orb (Jethro Gibbs)
    Adamant Nature- Insomnia
    252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HP

    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Drill Peck
    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Superpower
    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Sucker Punch
    *bulbagarden.net image removed*Night Slash

Honchkrow is definitely one of the key members of this team. It can come in on several occasions thanks to its Ground and Psychic immunities. It rips through teams with great coverage provided by Superpower and Sucker Punch/Night Slash. Drill Peck tears through Grass and Fighting types. Honchkrow truly murders teams because of its great coverage and power. It has crippled several of UU's top sweepers, such as Alakazam and Gallade, and can take out some of UU's top support Pokemon, such as Claydol. For these reasons, Honchkrow is truly invaluable to the team.

The head of the NCIS team, Leroy Jethro Gibbs has had plenty of experience dealing with crime. He has helped (and sometimes single-handedly) taken down some of the most notorious serial killers and terrorist leaders in the world. His crime scene experience and sharp vision have proven invaluable to the NCIS team on several occasions. Gibbs is known for a love of coffee and often builds boats as a hobby. He also loves redheads and bourbon.

Tied Up Loose Ends of the Case
-Honchkrow's ability was changed to Insomnia (which makes sense, since Gibbs drinks lots of coffee)
-Rhyperior gained Rock Blast and forgot Stone Edge.
-Rotom gained Hidden Power Ice and lost Hidden Power Fighting (McGee can't fight anyways, so who cares)
-A physically defensive Venusaur has been placed over Muk.

    Debrief

Overall, this team has been quite successful since its construction. It definitely has some holes to be patched up, and can use some reworking. However, I am confident that this team will eventually rise to somewhere near the top of UU.

Rock Blast >> Stone Edge on defensive Rhyperior, i find it useful for beating Subbers like Moltres, Sub Zam, Mismag etc.

You'll prolly want HP Ice >> HP Fighting on Rotom too, Rock Polish Torterra goes lololol at your team.

Nothing can take sleep, id try Insomnia on Krow.

    Just some little things here.

    EDIT :

Oh yeah one last thing, if Rotom has lost its scarf (or gets Pursuited...) Curse Quagsire REALLY hurts you lol.

I'll make those little changes. How do you suggest I deal with Curse Quaggy otherwise?

Also, Azumarill has been causing problems for this team, as does Kabutops (basically anything with high Attack and STAB Aqua Jet :/) I need a way around this as well.

To solve all those problems id look to slot in a bulky grass type, Venusaur might work >> Muk or something. Still absorbs Toxic Spikes so yeah.

SD saur is really good actually now it got Power Whip or you could go physically defensive (Use Synthesis) to better handle Azu etc.

I think that Venusaur would probably be the best option. Since I want to retain the physical attacks that Muk provided, would using the physically defensive set with Seed Bomb/Power Whip and Return instead of Energy Ball and Sludge Bomb work?
