    If you haven't noticed yet, you will.

    The catch rate for pokemon appears to have been significantly lowered. Some say by as much as 20%. After my outing this afternoon I would say that is not an unreasonable number.

    This change, however, feels quite unreasonable. Especially when you tack on that their flee rate has been increased (again I'm hearing possibly by as much as 20%).

    I loved the update. Everything is running smoother now. But. This. Is. Not. Good.
     
    Sorry, is this confirmed? I've not seen this mentioned anywhere but if it's true then oh boy does that suck. I personally haven't noticed Pokémon being any harder to catch since the update but I think it'd be a bizarre idea to do that given they're already pretty tough to lock down in a lot of cases. I'll take a proper look around patch sites and see what the deal is.
     
    I don't know whether if the rate change has affected me at all; it still seems a little difficult to be capturing certain Pokemon.
     
    I think Niantic is doing everything in their power to make this game significantly harder (totally ignoring the now completely uselessness of the Nearby List). The constant ease of catching all of the common pokemon in the area made their significance in acquiring them not as meaningful. If you think about it raising the difficulty of successful capture does in fact make having them more valuable even if it is for just candy and stardust which are the two main reasons for continuously catching pokemon we already have.

    I think Niantic might have been a little worried the game was too easy as it was previously especially knowing that a player has already acquired 142/151 pokemon (which is the max a person within any one country can acquire without doing some serious traveling and figuring out how Legendary pokemon are found) within their game before the first month of the game's initial release had ended.


    I have no idea what this game holds in store for the future... but I almost want to ask Niantic, how hard is this game going to get, and are you trying to make the game less casual?

    Edit: I have definitely noticed a significant increase in pokemon escaping from the balls since the last update as well as running away more frequently, especially in common pokemon as well as low CP pokemon. Their distances from the player has also changed quite significantly as well. There is also a new issue where sometimes "Nice" and "Great" catches don't register their experience increase. There are also many people I know personally who have pointed these changes out to me since the update as well as the youtuber I've been following a lot recently pointed out all of the changes as well as his overall skill in throwing in the game has out of nowhere taken a turn for the worse (his technique never changed, the mechanics did).

    I personally have noticed that the 'attack' animation of pokemon seems to happen more frequently now, but once they're in the ball there seems to be no change. If anything they're staying in more, but I personally think the success rate once in the ball is unchanged.

    It's hitting the little blighters that's the problem, but there's ways around this - throw straight (I'm bad at this) and wait to throw until just after an attack/jump animation.
     
    I haven't really noticed any change either... I might be a little upset if this were true, though.
     
    From my experience it is harder to get them in the ball but once in they tend to stay in more but if they do escape then they more likely to run away. I think they've done it to force people to curveball more since realistically you may only get 1 chance so you need to improve your chances of catching the Pokemon
     
    For me I haven't had much problems with catching Pokémon while walking or driving below 30mph.


    But driving over 60 any Pokémon that breaks out of the ball flees immediately.


    I mean I recently caught a 492cp Kingler recently that wasn't hard to catch.




    One thing though is I found a Pidgeot early in the game, before the update and I wasted like 40 Pokeballs on it before running. I think it was farther away because I couldn't throw the ball far enough to reach it. If more Pokémon were like that then the game would be impossible. I mean orange ring Pokémon and not just red.

    Okay now that you mention it I have definitely been seeing the depth changes and the attack animations are happening far more often. Since my last post I went out on a catching spree and it definitely is feeling a fair bit harder to actually get the catch now - things just seem to break out all of the time. It legitimately took me 4 attempts to catch a 10 CP Rattata when I got home, that's how bad it seems now. I severely hope this change is reverted as there is no reason at all to make this more difficult than it already is.

    Though I will say, Mister Coffee had some interesting thoughts regarding the difficulty level of the game, etc. I wonder if he's right about Niantic's thought process with this. If so, I could understand... but that doesn't mean I like it. I would rather that they increase the amount of XP it takes to level up or something like that. Now pokeballs are just going to be that much more precious (and that many more wasted) and I imagine some awesome Pokemon are going to get away from me after one botched attempt because, well, that's what I've experienced so far.....
     
    I got a nice on a curveball against a lvl 10 pidgey earlier and it still escaped lol, actually since the change I'm actually using a lot less pokeballs since they tend to the either be caught quickly or run away quickly so you don't end up throwing 10+ (or even 5+) balls at a Pokemon because the encounter never lasts that long
    A lot of people I've talked to have also said that they are getting more pokeballs from pokestops since the update as well
