    Hi,

How do I change OAK's movement in the beginning so I can leave pallet town east, not north? The option is greyed out in advancemap.
Is there a way to change how you receive the starter entirely? Will this affect future events?

    thank you!

I don't know why an option would be greyed out but all you should need to do is change the position of his hidden sprite in advance map, see where it says look up, change it to face the direction of the new town entrance, in your case look right.

After that, you also need to drag the two green event scripts to the new exit point. Then, open the script on the green event tiles (because oak himself doesn't have any script at that point) and make new movement scripts for oak to follow when you walk over the tiles.

Don't forget to always have your event tiles set to talking level: height 2, otherwise they won't activate on walk over.

All the raw commands you need should be in the scripts already, but if you need more just check this.

p.s. when I say may new movement scripts, I mean entirely new ones, with a dynamic offset etc. Don't just rewrite the ones already there.
