Changes you didn't like

The Pokemon series has changed a lot over the years, and a lot of new mechanics have been introduced. On the whole, these mechanics seem to have been well-received, despite pre-release backlash against some of them (e.g., I remember a lot of concern about the physical/special split pre-release, but most people ultimately liked it). Are there any mechanic changes that you didn't like, or that you think made the games worse (for you personally, or for the series in general)?

I didn't like how some features became exclusive to specific games/regions. Such as the trainer customization in Kalos and the Pokemon walking behind the player feature in Johto (and Kanto if you count Pokemon Yellow) I also don't like how you couldn't trade from 2nd gen to 3rd gen, though I understand back then it was really difficult.

Seasons were conceptually neat but locking out parts of the game for real-world months at a time was a really bad design choice so I'm glad they didn't stick around.

I hadn't thought about those in a while, but yeah, I guess those didn't work that well in practice. Seasons were something I thought would be really neat in Pokemon for years, but they were ultimately pretty forgettable, if not frustrating. They work ok in a series like Animal Crossing, where the entire point is essentially to live life in a town filled with animals and collect stuff and build up your home, but otherwise, pacing doesn't work too well. Timing was also an issue with the White Forest/Black City thing, as if you didn't beat the game relatively quickly, you ended up with a deserted town (unless you had friends to help you repopulate it).
