Chapter 1 - The well dressed man.
Spoiler:
The boy shrouded in dust and several other pale objects awoke. He looked up, the ceiling was bare and had a tone like iron. He looked down, there was a mixture of sand and dirt that fused to created the floor. To the left and then to the right were the same iron-like tone, And straight ahead was a door. The boy had a name, Calum. Or so he thought it was, because all he could remember was the far past and not the near past. He did not know the reason for him laying in the imprisoned room. So he laid in the shadows for a while, puzzled, frozen, and scared.
He awoke a second time to the uneasy sound of what wasn't there. His mouth was parched and his stomach was expunged from previous edibles. So Calum stood up with the cracking of his back, shoulders, then finishing with his legs and lifted one foot then the next to the door that awaited him. He then with a push of his own beliefs opened the door alone to find the great red sun staring him down, after that he saw the new world.
Twisted and edged, the land looked. A once urban society was craved by the past but what came to the eye was a deconstructed creation of itself that killed the previous reality and replaced it with broken buildings, sandy streets, and a town populated with Calum. The air was the most notable though. Its taste was dusty and bitter, something only related to by cinnamon with no flavor.
Calum with eyes thickly wide blinked hoping to erase this vision but it did not happen. The buildings were still crumbled. The streets still golden brown. And the air was still a musty gray. He then heard the sound of a blank wind that tickled his dry face.
The first thing Calum asked himself was, where is everyone? The second, where am I? The third, what happened? The answers to these questions were gone and so was the wind that cracked his lucid daze. For he needed food and water fast his body urged him. So with a lick of the dry lips, he walked to the first building. His dark black hair trudged against the dusty air whilst he walked, each step blundering his boxer like body to small pain. His feet were now sandy too.
Upon entry to the first gas-station looking crevice Calum shook his body from all the sand, and peeked to the darkness of the room. The silence then trickled to his ears as he walked further into the small hut. The same gray toned walls and ceiling appeared to his eyes, giving a boring aura to his vision. Through that vision he saw a small pack laying acrossed the shattered room. It was covered in dust until Calum shook it off. The backpack had three bottles of water and two luscious bars of protein. He quickly unwrapped the first bar, smacking it to his mouth with each bite and refilling his needs with one water bottle. Calum decided this would be enough for now, for the room was empty of all other supply's. He then put the backpack on thanking luck for this gift as he headed out the crevice. The sun once again bested on him upon exit, causing a squint of his eyes following a rubbing of them.
Calum couldn't remember much besides the image of society far back in his head. He knew he had a mother and father but did not miss them. He knew he went to school, and played soccer but couldn't care about it. It may have been from what happened to him before this new world, or he could have always felt this way but all he knew for certain was he was very lonely.
But wishing was not a game Calum liked to play, it seemed fake and pointless. So he walked acrossed the fluffily crooked street way dodging each mistakable object or rock until he found a formation of stones that made a shelter. He lay here until the sun struck him aslumber.
The Third awakening was not to an eerie silence but to a whistle of humanity and the footsteps of a well dressed man. When his eyes finally confirmed this stature of man he saw his path was headed towards him. The man had long slicked back hair to the color brown and he was slender like a stick but muscular to hold it together. His whistle soothed Calums ear for society but scared him to think danger. But curiosity beat on Calums lonely self as he peeked out the hut.
Their eyes meet, antiquating eachother and giving a sort of look that could surprise a guard. "Hello!" Shouted the man 100 yards away not even scared of crazed humanity. "Hey!" Spoke Calum, entering his voice to this new broken world. They both started walking towards each other at a decent pace, Calum was very shy about this meeting but the well-dressed man was not and you could tell ,he wasn't.
The man's face soon appeared to have similar structure to Calum, but not recognizable. The man squinted then as they finally came tables length apart they stopped. "You look like hell." said the bartender like man. Before Calum could respond with anysort of retort the man said. "-oh my bad, introductions first. I am Simon, and you are?"
"My name's Calum." spoke the teenager. "What happened?" followed Calum.
"I couldn't say." darted Simon. "It seems nobody knows though." he then chuckled like a kid. Calum looked disappointed but brought himself up thinking what did he expect? "So you've met others?!" Calum quickly said with a spark. "Well yeah of course." said Simon moving his eyebrows down. "Have you not?"
Calum looked surprised himself. "I just woke up to this." he said. "Oh wow! I've been awake for over a month or so. Nobody keeps track of that though. I wonder how you are still alive?" Calum looked down with a smirk and a shrug signifying he didn't know. "Anyway this was nice, but I have to be on my way." said Simon adult-like. "-Wait!" blurted Calum.
"What?" said Simon sarcastically. "If you want to come with I say...no." he chuckled. "You dont want to get caught in my life. So bye!" he began to walk crisply through the sandy streets as if this glimpse of worldly activity never happened. But Calum followed. He didn't know why, but he followed his steps until Simon looked back. "Stop!" Calum stopped. "Please I have stuff to do, last thing I need is a bothersome kid at my side." said Simon. Calum then sighed winds of despair, causing Simon to see his loneliness. Simon sighed. "Hey...Kid you can follow me till' the next village, okay?" Calum looked up and smiled, then Simon did too.
