Characteristics question

    I've been kind of curious about this for awhile. I was looking around at Smogon the other day, noticed that for most of their movesets and natures and what nots.. they don't have anything listed for characteristics.. like what to focus on for the sets.

    I guess the question on my mind is, how much do characteristics factor out in the end, and if it's something I should be paying attention to when it comes time for me to start picking out my competitive team.. or should I have more attention on natures (which seem to be more important from my understanding)
     
    by characteristics, I'm assuming you're talking about the short blurb on the pokemon's summary page like, "Likes to run", "can take hits", "Proud of its strength", etc. right?

    Those are just small indicators of what stat the pokemon's highest IV is in. Ideally all pokemon's IVs are 31 if you're into competitive battling, so if you breed a pokemon to perfect IVs, their characteristic will be completely random, so it makes no difference what the game displays it as as long as you know that it has perfect IVs. XD
