One thing I love about the game is how many choices you get to make: It's not like a, "This is your character, here's a rifle, now go shoot some aliens." You get to customize.

My choices in pokemon games usually involve picking favorites. in Johto games I always evolve my eevee into espeon.

For first time starters, it goes like this iirc: Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Turtwig, Oshawott, Fennekin and Popplio.
