Claiming:What exactly is it?

Hi I'm somewhat new to the forum, and I didn't manage to dig it up on your FAQ's (maybe I didn't look hard enough), but I had to wonder: What exactly is Claiming and how does it work?

Claiming is simply you claim something! XD
For example, there are different threads in the forum where you can claim your favourite song, or your favourite Pokemon and no one else can have it; you just post in those threads and, if it hasn't been claimed by a member, you can claim it for yourself.​

Claiming is basically taking ownership over a series, Pokemon, pairing, etc that you like. You can post your claims on your profile, and can officially "claim" something by posting in it's specific claiming thread.
You don't actually own what you claimed, of course, it's merely just for vanity. Links to the claiming threads of PC can be found below.
