Hi I've been lurking for a while, but now I'm trying my hand at hacking a Fire Red rom.

I just wanted to verify something real quick.

I've gathered from what I've read that I can use the 25 blank pokemon slots by celebi. They just don't have associated pokedex pages, and catching one may freeze the game.
I actually hope that is the case, as I want to use them as boss-type enemies who won't be catchable anyway. And them not being in the dex, thus "hidden", would be added bonus.

I just wanted to be sure.

    Thanks in advance.

This is true, but IDK about the freezing thing ... never heard of that before. Also, if you fight them in battle you'll only get 1 xp from beating them.

Thank you LE PUG (btw I have a pug too!)

As for the freezing, I only saw it mentioned in one discussion. The others seemed to indicate it would just pull the last entry in your dex.

Either way good to know. And the exp think isn't too big a deal. I'm aiming for these hidden bosses to be so hard you pretty much shout be max leveled already.

They don't freeze the game, they function as completely normal pokemon.

I have (using glitches) hatched one in my Emerald, and without any AR codes it functioned completely normally.

They won't appear in the Pokedex, and they only give 1xp for killing if I remember correctly.

But they work quite well as bosses.

Here's a list of what you can and can't do with them to my knowledge:

    You can:
    *Use them in "givepokemon" scripts
*Fight them (in wild battles. I haven't tried trainer battles but I think that'll work too)
*Give them valid stats, moves and evolutions
*Give them valid sprites, and icons

    You can't:
*Give them separate cries. They are all hardwired to use Unown's cry
*Give them Pokedex entries (without some kind of ASM hack or something)

You can try changing their base EXP in some editing program. It might make them give out more than 1 EXP when defeated. I don't know, I haven't tried. I've used them as "Special Characters" that join your team when talked to, so no battles involved.

Thanks for the further explanation Akame. I'm planning on giving them to hidden boss trainers. So they won't ever be caught. I am going to try and do something about the exp. As I was thinking when I responded to Lepug, in ok w no exp. But big bosses giving big exp is a good thing.

    (Sorry for double post)

Side question: is there anyway to add more extra slots?
