Digging through the PoryTiles github hasn't given me a satisfactory answer, apologies if this has been covered already. I've put together a few building sprites that I would like to incorporate into the Slateport secondary tileset. Is it possible to extend the existing vanilla Slateport tileset and add in my tiles, or do I need to decompile that vanilla tileset, add my building tiles, compile a new tileset, and insert that new tileset?

Hey! Porytiles author here. If you want to use Porytiles, then the way to do that would be roughly as you said. That being said, it gets a bit complicated to use Porytiles to edit vanilla secondary sets, since you must first decompile the vanilla primary general set. Then recompile that with Porytiles and add it to Porymap. Then you can decompile the Slateport secondary set, make your edits, then recompile against your Porytiles vanilla primary general. In Porymap, you'd need to make sure that Slateport is set to use the Porytiles vanilla primary general as well. Problem is, Porytiles doesn't support animation decompilation yet so you'd need to port those over manually. It's a huge headache.

What I would suggest is that you spend some time understanding how the game's tilesets work and just try to insert your custom building sprites manually. If you dig around these forums there's an old post that covers how to edit tilesets manually. It's a little outdated but the info is generally correct: https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/tile-inserting-animating-tutorial.422362

Until Porytiles is more mature this is your best option imo. But please give Porytiles a star so you can follow updates to the project. I am actively working on it and hopefully this workflow will be much improved in the not-too-distant future. And if ever you want to insert brand-new, completely custom tilesets, Porytiles is currently your best bet--in my humble opinion :D
