    Hi!

Recently I started on the path to completing the National Dex. Today I discovered competitive battling (eg Smogon) and am now discouraged. If much of the Poke-playing community uses Simulators and Emulators why am I bothering with an achievement on Cartridges?

Also, why bother completing the Dex when all of those pokemon might be non-transferable in a generation of the near future? It starts to feel like I'm wasting my time to some extent on the DS.

I'm not burnt out collecting pokemon- I love the hunt- but I might burn out soon if there's no real achievement in doing something on the cartridges. So I'm asking you guys, the hardcore fans, do you play on cartridges? Is it worthwhile to mainly play there and not on the PC?

    Thanks!

The real game cartridges have you feel more accomplished, because if you complete the pokedex without the aid of cheating devices and ROMs, you have a bigger psychological accomplishment because you know you've completed the pokedex yourself without the aid of third-party equipments. So it's definitely worthwhile to play with your actual cartridge rather than ROMs.

Also, if you feel like you're wasting your time playing pokemon, go do something else.

I played the Pokemon games on the cartiridges when they first came out because I had no idea what a GBA ROM was, but when I lost the games, thats when I started to play on my laptop.

Well if you want bragging rights then go right ahead, you can show your friends at school the GBA, DS or GBA SP what you have done; it will be a lot harder to do with a PC or laptop

The main reason Simulators are used over Wifi matches, is because things like usage stats can be kept track of and everything is generally more organized. That and not many battlers have the patience to learn how to abuse a Random Number Generator to get Pokemon who are strong enough for the metagame. I prefer cartridges over emulators for a few reasons, firstly, they're more portable in that [since I don't have an R4], I can play them anywhere, instead of just on my computer. I've also been playing on Cartridges since I was a kid and it just feels natural to me, I'm not tempted to spam the speed button or enter any codes. Thirdly, even if Communication from the DS Generation to future generations is cut in the near future, you still have all the Pokemon you've caught, so you can trade them amongst past gen games if you ever feel like using a certain Pokemon on a nostalgia playthrough.

Ehhh, I only use an emulator for GSC, some RBY, and playing hacks of gen. 1-3 games. I prefer using a cartridge/game card. I don't like using emulators for DS games, because it is technically illegal (piracy) and I don't feel like being one of the nerds who gets on the news because he is arrested for being too cheap to actually buy a game, so he commits piracy. I follow the laws, so I don't buy R4 flashcarts to pirate games on.

    What's an R4 flashcard?

    Actually, nevermind...

It really depends on the person. Myself I enjoy "Catching them All", but you may run into somebody who wants to just throw in some cheats for completed dex then bam their done and don't even bother. I don't really forsee a none transfer from GB to GBA like they did with GSC and RSE. But who knows it may happen again. Most of the achievement is that you got self satisfaction from that game and enjoying the hunt. I myself would rather play the cartridge then on an Emulator, not to mention I am helping to support the company by paying for their product. And somebody may say oh they will still get their money from plenty of other fans, well if everyone had that thought process then no one period would be the games.

Too add to this also I believe you don't have to deal with battle animations? Or at least that was the case with Shoddy. I don't know about PO. And yeah I know if I was competitive battling I wouldn't feel like training and just jumping into it. Also I know with trading Wifi is not always reliable when trying to get a connection so there is more reliability with simulators then Wifi.
