So as a 22 year old and watching the whole 'Twitch Plays Pokemon' I had to reminisce on the good old times playing Red & Blue as a kid...
I'm not into the whole Pokemon thing now and stopped playing after Gold & Silver but I really want to have a little fun with the old school feel to it.
After doing some research trying to find out how Red/Blue can link up and battle through the internet I found out that IT'S NOT POSSIBLE!! (go figure)
Although it isn't possible I also found out something else... Fire Red and Leaf Green are the remakes of the original Red and Blue...
Even better to know, Fire Red and Leaf Green can link up and battle through the internet!!
So here is my proposal to you;
How about we get 8-16 people and have ourselves a little competitive fun in the name of generation 1 Pokemon?
Here's how it would work:
• 8-16 people with streaming capabilities
• All of which who are able to comprehend the basic emulator linking setup instructions.
• All of which are able to play at the exact same time in sessions.
• All of which who are able to connect to some sort of voice communication server be it; skype, mumble, vent, teamspeak (majority rules on voice comms and mic not required)
• All of which who will stay the full session lengths because each session's end will be important.
• All of which who are able to make each full session's scheduled start time.
• Last but most importantly HONESTY because we all know that winning is fun but when it's done so through cheating there is no glory to be had.
Basically I was thinking we can have some rules set for the tournament battles and the sessions as a whole and here's what I'm thinking (all of which is debatable)
First I will have to define a 'session' and how many FULL sessions will make up the end of this whole series.
--- A session will be something like 1-2 hours of gameplay OR until the last person beats a gym leader in which we will ALL stop catching and leveling and get ready for the tournament.
--- With badges being the deciding point on a session there will be 9 total full sessions; badges one through eight and the Elite 4 + rival.
--- So when a person beats a gym leader they are free to keep leveling so long as they're not the last person to beat that gym.
--- HOWEVER, there will have to be some time limit on sessions because I'm aware and understand not everyone can spend 10 hours straight on a game.
--- So with that being said the 'gameplay session' has to be 1-2 hours maximum because at the end of each session we're doing a single elimination based tournament called the 'battle session' which will take approximately another hour!
--- Therefore GAMEPLAY SESSION + BATTLE SESSION is a maximum time of 3 hours and is considered a FULL SESSION.
Gameplay session: 1-2 hours timelimit and ends when the last person participating defeats that session's gym leader. (So session #1 is Brock, session #2 is Misty, etc.)
Battle session: approximately 1 hour of a single elimination tournament between the participants.
Full session: both the gameplay session and the battle session together.
General Rules
1.) The first rule of fight club is don't talk about fight club.
2.) No cheating, gameshark, glitching, hacking, or anything that will give you an unfair advantage over the next guy.
3.) Fire Red or Leaf Green, no other games in this competition.
4.) Do not play the save file you're competing with when a session is not happening; example being a session is scheduled for March 8th @ 2:00 PM EST -> don't play on March 7th to have an early advantage.
5.) Be honest (see 'ensuring honesty' below on my method for ensuring honest gameplay)
(Anymore rules that should fall under 'general' are up for suggestion)
Battle Rules
--- These rules only apply to the 'single elimination tournament' between the 8-16 people involved and not to NPC trainer battles.
---NOTE: Nobody will know who they're facing until the end of the 'gameplay' session. We're using a random tournament bracket generator.
1.) No using revives.
2.) No using potions.
3.) Single Elimination tournament format.
4.) If the battle is close and you lose internet connection you may be given another chance;
-- example being you both have 3/6 pokemon left to fight and you unluckily lose connection, however if you're losing 3/6 to 6/6 you will not get to re-battle.
(Rule #4 is definitely debatable)
5.) All battles of all sides must be streamed via twitch to give the community something interesting to watch and for honoring the honesty commitment.
(Anymore rules that should fall under 'battle' are up for suggestion)
Ensuring Honesty
In order to ensure that we're all playing honest we will be required to screenshot our pokemon before AND after the GAMEPLAY SESSION and before the BATTLE SESSION.
Why?
This is so we know that no one is playing outside of the sessions for an unfair advantage.
I'll start a post somewhere else when we begin the 'tournament season' for all of us to post our screenshots.
I will also take it upon myself to make a larger image with everyone's screenshot together for easier comparison.
Repeat: 2 screenshots per full session;one before the gameplay session and one before the battle session.
Example Screenshot
I cannot post an example screenshot until I have 15 posts, just message me to see it!
1.) Block out the image so nobody knows what it is (doesn't have to be colored in all fancy, just color over it.
2.) Either rename your pokemon or block out it's name altogether.
3.) You don't have to block out the hitpoints but you can if you want to.
BUT make sure your levels are showing.
NOTE: You do not have to block anything out if you don't want to, just a suggestion if you want to compete without someone countering your entire lineup.
Signups!
So the minimum amount of signups will be 8 people and maximum of 16.
If we have more than 16 people interested we can have sub-ins for people that decided to quit before the season finishes or somehow just couldn't make it.
---which I'm hoping if you do sign up you won't quit halfway through and stick to your commitment
Sub-ins are expected to follow the same rules and play while we play during our 'gameplay' session.
We can also do a tournament for the sub-ins with people that lost the single elimination sessions.
Signup ONLY if you have read everything above and can comply to everything that is required!
