Ok, so heaps of people mention which "deck" they'll be using in certain tournaments and which "deck" they are making. I don't understand exactly what that means but making different decks.

NOTE: I have just started collecting cards again after SOOOOO many years and also I'm in the midst of learning how to play the game also. So don't think I'm naive : )

    Cheers

Well, what are you asking? How to build a deck? Well, if so, I've got some easy-to-follow steps for you.

    1) Think of what theme you want, choosing from 1-2 different types (whichever you feel comfortable).
    2) When you have a theme, pick out the Pokémon you'd like. Considering you can have 60 cards in your deck, 10-15 Pokémon (including doubles) would be a good choice.
    3) When you have your Pokémon, get Supporting and other Trainer cards that will help you. 15-20 would be good.
    4) Choose the Energy cards that would be good, making up the last (almost half) portion of your deck.

Viola, a deck. That's all there is to it, really.

    Ok, beautiful.

But, I see people post things about different sorts of decks based around ONE certain Pokemon. How do you know what Pokemon suit which deck, etc, etc. Obviously based on theme but is there anything else?

You'll know when your Trainer cards support said Pokémon. Personally, I think it's a bad idea to use just one Pokémon.

lal Just do research on functional card in every set and try combining them with powerful trainer engines that work for the Pokemon in it. 'tis all I do. Then I modify the deck based on performance, and that's really all there is to it.
