Hello there,
I have been working on developing my own Pokémon fan game; and I am in the process of designing a custom region. However, I've run into some challenges and was hoping to get some advice from more experienced creators.
The main issue I am struggling with is balancing the layout and design of my region with gameplay flow. I want my region to feel natural and immersive; with distinct towns; cities; and routes that encourage exploration; but I am not sure how to ensure that the difficulty progression works well. For example; how can I make sure that players don't accidentally end up in areas that are too difficult for their current levels, while still allowing for freedom of exploration?
Another challenge I am facing is how to make each area of the region feel unique without overwhelming myself with too much detail. I want every town and route to have its own personality; but I am not sure how to strike the right balance between adding enough detail and keeping the workload manageable.
Also; I have gone through this post; https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/looking-for-people-to-make-blue-prism-a-pokemon-fangame.499769/ which definitely helped me out a lot.
Lastly; I am curious about how to incorporate fan made Pokémon into the region without it feeling too cluttered. Is there a general guideline for how many new Pokémon to introduce per route or per town?
Thanks in advance for your help and assistance.
