Alright, so I heard this a while back, and I decided to share this. Sorry if this is in the wrong spot or anything, but I found out something interesting about the Beta versions of Red/Blue.

So we all know how Cubone wears the mask and stuff. He's lonely and sad because his Mom dies when (or at least this is Fanon) she gives birth to him. Of course this doesn't happen when breeding. Also everybody knows about the whole plot in Gen I about Cubone in Lavender Town. I heard this off hand, but it was from a pretty good source:

One of the ideas that Shigeru had was there could be a singular Pokemon that wasn't legendary, but was interesting none-the-less. Perhaps it would show a slight defect than all the other Pokemon, or maybe it would just have a specific marking. He discussed the idea with Satoshi, who was already working on Lavender Town hoping to place a major event in it. Satoshi loved the idea, and decided to make the Cubone Event. This event owuld be the player trying to uncover a ghost after hearing about Team Rocket killing a Pokemon. He would find out the Ghost was of a Kangaskhan, without a baby in its pouch. It would be uncatchable and after the Player defeated it, they would gain acess to the Kangaskhans grave, where a single Cubone would be mourning. The Cubone would be the Kangaskahns baby wearing the skull of the Kangaskahn. It would later evolve into a Marowak after capture. This idea was good, but then they thought that it would be too complicated in the end, and so they ditched the idea. The main concept stuck and grew on Satoshi though, and he morphed it into the current Lavender Town event.

So what do you guys think? It sounds true to me. Would you've liked Cubone more/less due to this event? Do you think they should've stuck with this event?

Anyways, hope you all like this tidbit of information.

    Well, that's interesting.
I personally like it being mysterious and unknown.
    But that's just me.

This sounds quite possible. The baby Kangaskhan and Cubone look quite similar... but then again, there's also the Venonat>Butterfree idea, which also makes sense, while remaining highly unlikely.

I'd like to believe this to be true, but after many of the rumors I've seen, I'm pretty skeptical :\

Do you have a link to back this up? It does sound very interesting. It would also support the relationship between Cubone and Kangaskhan that fanon has found in the past year.

I've always thought that Cubone was a baby Kangaskhan turned different pokemon, but that's just me. Thanks for the proof to back it up!

I don't know. It sounds like some one just took my theory and made up stuff in order to make it work.
    Cool if that's true though.

Or if it's a baby Kangaskahn, it could evolve into a Cubone somehow once it puts the skull on. o_O

Kind of like how when a Shellder bites onto a Slowpoke's tail, it causes the Slowpoke to evolve.

Yeahhh, I really have no idea.. ._.; /corner

    Cubone is so cute!!

I don't like the idea of it being related to Kangaskhan. I don't know why. Maybe I'm just too attached to the cubone I know and love!
    :'(

Boy, that would be interesting if it were that way. I already like Cubone and Kangaskhan a bit, so this makes me like the former just a little bit more.

The theory sounds pretty interesting. I think I could believe it.
Plus it would really make a lot of sense out of things.
No, I wouldn't like Cubone more or less if they'd kept it in. Simply because Cubone is my absolute favourite Pok`emon anyway. And I don't think it would be possible for me to love him more.

It kinda makes sense, and maybe this is the reason they never gave Kanga a pre-evo.

Make sense. The idea itself is very good. what make those two genius ditched the idea from the original game? they should make it canon!

I've never ever heard of this before. Thanks for the info! :)

I would have preferred this event instead of the Marowak-ghost one they have now... It definitely has a deeper plot than the current event. Then again it's pretty gruesome, seeing as to how we find out that the skull helmets Cubones wear are actually Kangaskhan skulls. D:
