After being hit by repeated delays, Cyberpunk 2077 finally went gold at the start of this month, meaning that it would absolutely, definitely, 100%, without doubt, hit it's targeted release date of 19th November 2020. Or not. CD Projekt Red dropped this message on Twitter yesterday:

    Spoiler:

21 days is significantly less than previous delays, but it has sparked the expected reaction from irate fans on Twitter.

Is Cyberpunk 2077 a game you were looking forward to? How do you feel about this rather unexpected delay? Given the backlash surrounding the crunch that developers of this game have undergone, do you believe that this game will actually release in December, or that this 21 day delay will make any difference to the finished product?

The mandatory crunch surrounding this game is what makes this delay annoying, I think - under no circumstances is crunch acceptable, and clearly it doesn't have the desired effect of having a game fully ready for launch. This entire thing has really dragged CDPR's reputation through the mud and it's disheartening because they have been - or had been - one of the admirable developers in the AAA industry. Their priorities are obviously in the right place, as delaying a game so that it's in the best possible condition when it launches is never a bad thing, but the way in which they intend to go about it is just plain scummy. It's no more OK for them to enforce crunch than it is one of the more reviled corporations like EA or Ubisoft.
