Hard to say, I think Torchic itself as pure fire type suits just fine. And since its little wings are too weak to fly and it has to rely on its legs (even stands on just one in official pics and game sprites), its actually understandable that it evolves into such a strong kicker. Hence fighting was an awesome call. The majority of psychic-types are known to have weak base defenses anyway, Torchic's evolved forms can easily tears through that if raised properly in attacking and speed (and speed is the Torchic families known problem).

But to remain on topic... I guess Normal... But I still think it being pure fire fits.

No. it would look UGLY. If torchic looked like that, I would make it use peck on a random person until it got shorter.
