3rd Gen Darn Safari Zone

well, its kinda easy. just go to grass where those pokemon appear, find a corner, then go against the obstaclea, etc. And, i use a special tactic. i throw the ball, and just when the circle of light appears, push down and A. i catched 15 rare pokemons like that, 7 tauros, 4 chanseys and my faves, 4 dragonairs and one of them was at lvl 40. ive got a (mmmmmmmm....) lucky days.... yippee.....lol

Sorry, but that little trick doesn't work. Pressing any combo when throwing a Safari Ball (or any Poke Ball for that matter) has no effect on the catch rate. If it makes you feel more secure, by all means, keep on doing it.

And again, the best way to find wild Pokes without wasting steps is to get off the bike and then move back and forth within the same square, without taking a step. You won't waste a single step, but you will still encounter wild Pokes.

Using that picture that someone posted, I was able to find my Chansey (I actually caught two). The trick worked the first time, but the second one fled, and then the third encounter it worked again (I suspect the third encounter was the same one from the second encounter). The trick failed with Tauro, so I'll have to "try try again". I did catch a Kangashan the second encounter. I think the trick does work - most of the time.

I still want the Lucky Egg Chansey so I'll go catch another one I hope. There seem to be more Rhyhorn, Paras, and Nidorians (M and F) than there are Chanseys and Kangashans. At least that's what I encounter more when I used Sweet Scent w/ my Oddish.

It's more of a strategy than a "trick", but I get what you mean.

BTW - here are the appearance percentages of Zone 2 and 3:

So, as you can see, you are correct in your assumption that Chansey, Kangaskhan, and Tauros are extremely rare.

Here's another tip, one that may even attract the elusive Chansey and Tauros. Bring an Oddish with you into the Safari Zone, one that has Sweet Scent. Only works if you have Fire Red Version. I actually attracted Tauros that way (and finally managed to catch one). And Chansey also was attracted, but it took a few times and walking around a few pieces of grass. I'm still trying for a lucky egg one (Crazy, I know!)

Not really that crazy, Trust me it's so much easier when you get it, I got it on my third chansey I caught, so I was like, AWESOME!, but yeah by the time I vs the Weak5 my Charizard was level 89.

well i only rely on luck when capturing chansey
i only rely coincidence when capturing tauros (i never bother trying to catch tauros bec. i thought he was a johto pokemon)
but one things for sure i cant catch a kangaskhan! so no tip for the kangaskhan

EVERYONE relies on luck when attempting to catch Chansey/Kangaskhan/Tauros. There is NO TRICK to it. Anyone who says different is lying to you or to themselves. Sweet Scent may help wild Pokes appear, but it doesn't increase the probability of the elusive three showing up, nor does it increase the chance to catch it. It is just pure luck, just as it is getting Chansey with a Lucky Egg, which thankfully I have gotten a few times (out of over 5000 tries I think it is only fair).

well i guess shanecdavis made a point there

In the safari zone time is counted on steps, to save money and time sit in the grass where they are supposed to appear and tap the d pad so that you only turn, and not move a space, you will still get wild pokemon and not be docked steps!

I agree with shanecdavis. There are no tricks. All we can do is know the mechanisms of SZ and use them wisely. You work with probabilities. Each safari ball thrown has a chance of capturing the pokémon, wich will be diferent from pokémon to pokémon. You already told about how baits and rocks works. Well i think it`s a good thing to throw the safari ball in the first turn. Reasons:
1-Doing so you don`t give the chance of losing the chance of having a chance of capturing it(probabilities...). If you risk throwing a rock it may run and you can only only say goodbye. (Chances are high on these pokémon)
2-If you throw a bait it may, only may, stay. But your chances of capturing will drop.
3-You can try doing long strategies (bait-rock;bait-bait-rock) but every turn is a chance of seeing it run away and a lost chance of maybe capturing it.

T.t

Well you can get em it's a matter of luck really. Just keep trying :P it may be hard but its da only way (Enless you trade)

i found a chansey, i threw a ball and it fled OMG!?!?

It took me 10 Chanseys encountered before I caught one. I have yet to see Tauros and haven't caught Kangaskhan.

I caught two Tauros by just throwing one Safari Ball, and I only need a Chansey, Pinsir, and Paras to catch one of each pokemon in the Safari Zone. I have no idea why I can't catch a Paras, I already caught a Parasect but the Paras keep popping out of the ball!

Yea I found 2 Tauros now and caught the first one after it stayed for 4 safari balls.

Woohoo! Finally caught a Chansey. :P Took me at least 7 or 8 tries. :embarrass It's at Level 33 now, with Sing, Softboiled, Water Pulse & Psychic.

Oh, I caught a Kangaskhan too. I thought they were quite easy to catch! Still no luck with Tauros, but meh...

I now have 2 chanseys and a blissey!
I just decided to stop using rocks and bait entirely and just throw ball after ball after ball... (2 hours later) ...after ball after ball.... (falls asleep)

(wakes up) question: are lucky eggs found only on wild chansey in the safari zone, or can you breed chansey to get lucky eggs?
