"Dawn's Early Night" Episode Discussion

Su. I just saw it today bit it seems like he does have a point. Here is May who just stared and knows really nothing about pokemon yet she does pretty good and even goes to the second round in her first contest yet here is Dawn who is having problems in her journey. Kinda a double standard. I mean even Ash who knew a bit much, when compare to May, more then May in pokemon had trouble in his journey and even lost a lot but May still kinda did better then Ash when he started out.

I was going to make a thread on this since Dogasu mention it. Does anybody think that it would have matter on helping promoting Contests if May lost kinda a bit the same as Dawn is right now?

I'm not sure if it's a double standard, Hikari's bad luck (even experts have their off days) or lazy writing (given their botch job of BF's). Nevertheless, another exploration of the current episodes and her track record wouldn't hurt.

I think with May's first Contest attempts, the losing wasn't so bad, as the Contests were a then-new feature of the anime, along with initial empathy with the gamers that sucked at it (including myself). So, I didn't mind the lossses, as May was figuring herself out, anyway. Compared to Dawn's Informed Ability (see TV tropes.org for that), and even that isn't holding up.

Unless, of course, they're padding out her Contests, like Ash and his Sinnoh badges, which is what I think they're doing.
 
I guess they are doing that but still I think that maybe it be better to to just kinda draw out each contest or something. Still I guess it just helps build Dawn's character a bit.

To Reyna, I suppose that's true, but she's appeared in every single D/P episode, so far -- how much character building do we need here? Heh.

Or, to be cynical, how much character building via losing at chosen medium (Contests) does one need?

Oh, wait, I forgot what show I was talking about, for a second.
