3rd Gen Daycare Acro Bike Cheat

I'm doing the thing where you can level up your pokemon by putting a lego brick or something on the up button when you're on your Acro bike and leve it on until your pokemon is a really high level, but I can't seem to gain a single level. Does anyone know how to do this? I'll tell you what I did, and you tell me if i've done this right but my game doesn't show it, or am I wrong. If i'm wrong, PLEASE correct me.

Directions:

Step 1: Fly to Mauville
Step 2: Put my Regice and Raichu in the daycare center
Step 3: Ride my Acro bike from Mauville up to the crumbly slope in Route 111 desert
Step 4: I put a red square lego brick on the up button
Step 5: I tape the lego brick down
Step 6: I place a hardback book on the red lego brick
Step 7: I plug the charger in
Step 8: I leave it in for 6-8 hours (still riding up the slope)
Step 9: Go back to the daycare center to find they have not grown 1 level since I put them in there


P.S. I used a Nintendo DS for this if that matters.

wouldnt it still take like an hour to make it gain like 10 lvs. with this cheat.

Tried it until my batteries ran out. The last time I used this on Kyogre, and it takes 2 days(by my reckoning).
