Hold on- is the one-shot the "pilot," or is it something else? I've read most of the manga and the "pilot," but I've never heard of this until now. Could someone enlighten me?

Ah, I've read it now. It isn't bad, but the end seems a little rushed and anticlimactic.

As a side note: Near's turning into quite a little heartthrob, isn't he? He's starting to look more like L, which isn't too surprising since he's about the same age L was in the main series and has been in a similar environment for years.
