[FONT=&quot]So after reading, commenting and loving most of the battle logs present here at PokeCommunity, I decided to get back into competitive battling on Shoddy. Last time I battled at all was before Platinum hence I have fairly limited knowledge to the present day common Pokemon and the new threats. I have been reading over some material around the place and have learned several things including Platinum being all offense or all stall. [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]This team I created mainly on Pokemon which I like and which work together reasonably well. I have replaced and changed many Pokemon and this set up seems to be quite effective. A mixture of bulky Pokemon which are able to cover each others weaknesses is important, and I know this team isn't perfect, but it seems to work to a certain extent.[/FONT]

Tyranitar creates a raging sandstorm!

So he sends out a Tyranitar and I send out my Porygon2. Porygon2 is fairly bulky and good at dealing out damage although I haven't run into many Tyranitar leads before. I am assuming it is here to send in a sandstorm and possibly set up Stealth Rock, after all, setting up a Stealth Rock is very common nowadays. I think I will settle with an Ice Beam and see what happens. Either a swicth or Stealth Rock will occur so I am ok either way.

He switches to Swampert and takes the Ice Beam which barely scratches him. I presume that Swampert will set up a Stealth Rock and Porygon2 isn't going to get anywhere soon if he stays in. So I switch to my own Stealth Rocker, Empoleon who can hopefully set up the rocks and possibly hurt Swampert later with Grass Knot.[/FONT]​

My only concern now is that Swampert could use Earthquake which will really rattle my Empoleon which happens to be my main Special Sponge and really the only thing that is made to come in on serious special attacks.[/FONT]​

Empoleon manages to get the stealth rocks out before being scared away by big Swamperts RAWR. My Specs Jolteon is forced into the battle against Swampert and I have a trick up my sleeve. Most Jolteons of the non support genre run Hidden Power [Ice], but my team already has plenty of ice moves so I ran Hidden Power [Grass]. I stay in and use Hidden Power expecting Swampert to use Earthquake hoping to KO Jolteon, or nab something on the switch.[/FONT]​

I switch to Porygon2 without a reason really. I assumed he was able to counter Jolteon with Cacturne so I switched to my Bulky Porygon2 who could hurt this cactus with Ice Beam. Having seen Cacturne use Substitute, I am a little dumbfounded, I have never faced a Cacturne before and don't really know what they are capable of.[/FONT]​

So it is a SubSeeding Focus Punching cactus from hell is it? My trusty Porygon2 faints from a misprediction as I had no idea what set this cactus was running. I send in Jolteon again mainly because he is strong and fast. I hope to hit him with a STAB Thunderbolt hopefully rattling him a little bit, maybe even KOing so I can clear the path of this cactus.[/FONT]​

Unneccesary critical hit there only adding to hax after 2 misses of thunderbolt. Well my Jolteon falls to this seemingly unstoppable cactus. Although then I remember Gliscor, my fighting resist who should be able to take these Focus Punches like a machine before using Ice Punch possibly boosted by a Swords Dance. Yeah sounds like a plan![/FONT]​

Oh well I suppose I can stay in with Gliscor and try another Ice Fang as I have no definite Skarmory counter and it will probably Whirlwind me out anyways.

Hah, now the hax is on my side forcing Skarmory to flinch preventing an attack or even a third set of Spikes. I am going to leave Gliscor in for more Ice Fangs as he should be able to take attacks from this metal pigeon like a professional. Well, he isn't payed to do it, but he is made to.

Ok so now he starts to attack me and like predicted, Gliscor is barely hurt. Although the Leech Seed is starting to have an effect on him. I figure that Skarmory cannot out stall me as I am dealing more damage and we both have the same recovery move plus if he uses roost I can use a Super Effective Earthquake on him. I swtich to Hariyama basically because of the Leech Seed annoying me expecting him to switch as if I don't like what I see, I can simply Whirlwind him.

Bah more hax that was certainly not necessary at all! Oh well Hariyama didn't do much, but I know someone who can! I send in Empoleon who is made for taking Special hits but Skarmory can do Drill Peck at best which will do minimal damage.. I can hit him back with a STAB surf which is sure to pack a punch.

Azumaril is hurt pretty badly by the entry hazards though, but luckily he is a ResTalk variant and can simply rest off all the damage. But my opponant doesn't know that. :P

I don't know what he was expecting, I guess he wanted to draw the Earthquake from Azumaril so Claydol could levitate over it. Too bad Azumaril doesn't have Earthquake and too bad I didn't choose to Superpower again which he could've survived. Not really outpredicted because I didn't expect him to change since I don't have Earthquake.

Empoleon scores a haxy Critical Hit and is able to OHKO the darn Skarmory which has been terrorizing my team. Now it is all even with 2 Pokemon for each trainer. Empoleon and Gliscor vs Tyranitar and a surprise Pokemon. I know that both Empoleon and Gliscor can beat Tyranitar so that is helpful, but it really depends on the other Pokemon.

Time for a history lesson: When I was first making this team, I really wanted to try out Empoleon. He is a special tank and Gliscor is a physical wall. I chose Gliscor because all of Empoleon's weaknesses are covered by Gliscor, and Gliscor's are covered by Empoleon. They are the perfect defensive team! So these two have great synergy, able to cover each others back for Super Effective attacks and I am able to take both physical and special attacks. I am at quite a good position right now for an even battle.

Now, back to the battle. :)

Well I got trapped against Dugtrio thanks to Arena Trap. But then I realised, I am still on high ground. Both Dugtrio and Tyranitar are physical Pokemon and Gliscor is made to take those kind of attacks. I should be able to stay alive long enough to get a Swords Dance up so I can take no chances or minimal survival then I can win. Things are looking up after all!

I get in my first Swords Dance while Dugtrio does pretty poor damage with a Stone Edge. I will use Swords Dance just once more to ensure that Tyranitar dies because I have faced defensive Tyranitars and they are a pain in the rear to defeat... But first I need to Roost because my HP is getting low and we don't want Tyranitar surviving and KOing or Dugtrio getting a Critical Hit.

Nice battle, it was an interesting read. Being as naive as I am, I never really knew what damage a Cacturne could deal.
Anyway, I can see why Empoleon is rising in usage now.

I thought Brightpowder was illegal because Cacturne was so ass with it. (Him, Gliscor, and Garchomp, anyway, but Cacturne uses it best)
