4th Gen Diamond or Platinum?

My friend is getting a DS soon and I want to get him Pokemon Diamond or Platinum. Does anyone have any thoughts on which one I should get him? I don't want to get him Pearl because that is the version I have (although I am also getting Platinum this Sunday).

Platinum all the way! I think you should cuz it's more advanced and you'll be able to battle and trade with him even though you can do that with Platinum and Diamond plus you two would be following the same storyline. Just my two cents.

Platinum!

Because it has a better sinnoh dex, stronger trainers (just a little bit), the new Wi-Fi plaza, the new battle frontier, the Distortion world, cooler sprites, the Top Trainer cafe, and a lot more!

There's much more to do in Platinum, so I'd go with that one.

platinum has much more to do than diamond does.besides you can record battles and stuff.go with platinum since its gonna be the newest one and if he plans to participate in the pokemon video game showdown this year he needs platinum
