so, the new Force of the Breaker booster for Yu-Gi-Oh has these powerful and awesome cards called Crystal Beasts. I was thinking that maybe this was a reply to the Diamond version of pokemon. just trying to make it sound similar maybe? i figure that Diamond is supposed to change pokemon for the better and be a huge booster pack for the game, and i think that yugioh really added some awesome card with force fo the breaker, and maybe both games are trying to steal each others thunder by naming their cards for gems. do you guys think they did this on purpose, or was it just a fluke?

Nyu, I doubt it. First off, Diamond is a set name derived from one of the 4th generation pokémon games, much in the vein of - say - the Leaf Green set, the crystal beasts on the other hand are simply one of the monster lines featured in Force of the Breaker, more or less on par with the Volcanic Burn line and with a side-order of Sky Scourges. It's not like they're all the set has to offer, even though the hype has been largely centered around them (Mostly, no doubt, because of Johan from the anime). The set isn't called 'Crystal Beasts'; it's called Force of the Breaker. Besides, if the YGO makers were out to steal the pokémon TCG's thunder then they're a bit late. After all, the pokémon TCG has already gone through the Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald sets, all of them gems. ;D

Really, I think you're just reading too much into the name. Gems are just an often-taped resource in fantasy-type settings, not like there's anything exceptional about YGO hopping onto the old bandwagon. ^-^

For YGO, they are just the Gem beasts, but of course american kids cannot tolerate the offensive nature of the word gem, so let's change all of it to crystals.

(it's just one of those nitpicks in translation like Black Magician to Dark Magician, because black is apparently more offensive than dark. By luck, it happens to crash into a Pokemon term.)

Actually I'm surprised that they use Crystal and not keep "Gem" for the Crystal beasts. Afterall, you think that Yugioh renamed 3 cards to avoid wrath from Gamefreak and Nintedo because of Sapphire Dragon, Diamond Dragon and Ruby Dragon, why will they dare to use Crystal now?
