I stopped watching the show after Misty left. So did Ash practice a religion? I just want to see if they retained Ash's irreligiousness (lack of religion).

Did Ash Ketchum practice a religion in the post-Johto episodes?

Maybe in some countries, however in the United States it would not because:
- Pokémon is on cable T.V., which is not regulated by the FCC.
- The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States protects the freedom of expression.
I'm pretty sure I recall seeing at least one episode where Ash and company participate in a traditional Japanese festival. This, while not necessarily branding Ash, has ties to the Shinto religion based in Japan. I also recall seeing protective scrolls being used in the Ghastly episode, I'm afraid that's religious as well.
So, does Ash have a religion? I'm not sure, however; religion has been apparent in the anime.

Also, you have the right to express your religion even if it offends someone. The entire reason for free speech protects your right to express your opinions ( which includes religion ) in the public setting. Someone is going to offended by any statement you make, and really who gives a crap if you do offend someone?

**Ever since the Bono Golden Globe and the 2004 Super Bowl Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" scandals, the FCC has been increasingly cracking down on just about anything deemed to be "indecent". Add to that the "war on obesity" which greatly restricts if not to the point of basically outlawing advertising directed at children. (yet for some reason it's perfectly OK to air trashy "talk" shows with guests taking off their clothes and throwing expletives almost every second as long as such obscenities are blurred and bleeped out in the middle of the afternoon when children usually come home from school.)
Although the "wardrobe malfunction" fines were overturned by the U.S. 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals last month, I don't expect the crackdown to end any time soon, if ever.

Cable TV does have quite a bit of regulations (mostly pertaining to carriage of certain local broadcasters and "out-of-market" channels), but not as harsh as traditional over-the-air broadcasting (where just about everything is under tight scrutiny**). That's part of the reason why (the late) KidsWB dropped Pokémon in the first place.

Hi, Otter Mii-Kun, Long time, no see!
I was wondering what happened to you when you didn't appear on the Misty club anymore.
Also, I'm pretty sure that he practices some sort of christianity (or at least has heard of christian beliefs, as he did seem to at least know who Noah was.). But he most likely practices shintoism (considering the fact that he attends a ceremony in both the Gastly episode AND the epsiode "Enlighten up", and he most likely attended a ceremony with Morrison.).
Also, I'm pretty sure that at LEAST Misty and Brock were christian. (and also, besides the cross, they also referenced Heaven and Hell a couple of times, and God (that is, the christian version) was referenced a few times, Brock Mentioned Noah's ark at one point, and a church was seen during a false flashback of James (where he apparantly froze to death with Growlie)
Anyways, yeah, I never understood why they have to censor childrens shows/cartoons/foreign programs (even religious elements), and yet feel it is perfectly alright to air Jerry Springer and other shows like that. Speaking of trash shows, one time during summer vacation two years ago when I was about to go see transformers with a relative, around noon, the TV was left on (I believe on Comedy Central), and... well, long story short, they had a very inappropriate thing that wasn't completely censored (Don't ask me what it was, because I'm not telling, for the rules and for the kids sakes). Let's just hope that they wise up and stop trying to air those kinds of shows at noontime at a very inappropriate time.

Heh, in response to the cross and Misty, it was a joke on vampires hating crosses.
As for this, if there were to be any religion in Pokemon, I'm sure it would be one totally unique to the Pokemon World.

Religion tends to be very confusing in the Pokemon world. However, with Arceus, this matter is an auto clean up. Arceus is the god. The end. Remember Arceus is Alpha + Zeus. Replaced with a C of course. All will be clear next year. Don't worry. In 2 years, Cristians will see movie 12 and throw a tantrum towards the company, sue their pants off, and make children revolt, then the goverment will act, the Catholics won't give a damn, the pope will slap his face, a civil war will start, and I'll have to watch the japanese episodes on youtube. But I may have gone too far there. So PUSA will skip that movie.

umm... Actually, AdvancedK9, I think that having them say that Arceus is THE God would completely contradict things stated in the Japanese version (for starters, their mentions of Noah's Ark, Ash and Misty mentioning the concept of Heaven and Hell in regards to Caterpie, the cross thing, Jame's fake-flashback, the references to God in Mewtwo strikes back [well, in the original raw.], the fact that Luka said that Chris's Grandfather is "currently up in heaven", and, relatively recently, Jessie and James mentioning that the fruits that they stumbled upon (which were actually a harvest by Farming Water Pokemon) were "a gift from God" would need to be explained, and they can't just retcon the part involving Mewtwo, since in the Japanese raw, his apparantly never being born by God's will (and the Scientists playing God as well) was the reason why he even destroyed them as well as their lab in the first place.)
